Awards honour dedicated colleagues
Staff from Lincolnshire Co-operative have been recognised for their commitment to their work with awards for customer service and training.
At an awards event, the Society gave out more than 150 Personal Development Awards to colleagues who have completed training above an NVQ Level 2. Qualifications included first line management, food safety, retail skills, funeral services and pharmacy skills.
Winners of the Customer Service Excellence Awards were also announced. Many of these are based on ‘mystery shopper’ visits carried out by independent companies.
And the Society also presented the Gold, Silver and Bronze 3 ‘e’s Awards to a select group of staff who had achieved something particularly special during the year and gone the extra mile for customers or colleagues.
The winners of the Customer Service Excellence Awards were:
Filling Stations Otters Bridge Filling Station, Gainsborough Road, near Saxilby.
Travel Lincolnshire Co-op’s Grimsby travel branch, in the Bullring.
Home The electrical sales team at Gainsborough Home Store, in Market Place. Coffee Shops The Spire Coffee Shop, West Street, Long Sutton.
Funerals
Silver Award, Horncastle Funeral Home, in Market Place.
Gold Award, Louth Funeral Home, in Queen Street Place.
Food
Joint Bronze Award, Collingham Foodstore in High Street and Alford Foodstore, in Church Street.
Silver Award, Balderton Foodstore, at the Lakeside Centre.
Gold Award, Morton Foodstore, near Gainsborough.
The winners of the 3 ‘e’s Awards were:
Bronze Phil Chapman, Sutton on Sea Funeral Home, Grove Road. Phil was nominated for being a ‘consummate professional’ during his day-to-day work but also, for his actions when a colleague fell ill during Prime Minister David Cameron’s visit to Lincolnshire Co-operative. Phil helped his colleague remain calm, reassured her and stayed with her throughout the event.
Joint Silver The team from Spalding Post Office, Winsover Road. When the closure of the Winsover Centre in Spalding was announced in late 2010, there was some uncertainty about the future of the town post office which was inside it. This was a difficult time for staff but they dealt with it professionally, continued to serve their customers with care and maintained their loyalty to Lincolnshire Co-op. Thanks to strong representations to Post Office Ltd from Lincolnshire Co-operative, a new location for the post office was found at a unit just along Winsover Road. The team moved there in February 2011. Joint Silver The team from Victoria Street Foodstore, Newark. A food discount area was created inside Victoria Street Foodstore in March 2011. This meant that the store team had to handle a vast range of new products arriving over a short period of time. Under the leadership of Manager Sandra Coughill they were so well-organised that the process went smoothly. The annual stocktake, which was meant to take two days, only took one because of their preparation! Now, Lincolnshire Co-operative has planning permission for a new foodstore on the Albert Street side of the site and the team will relocate in early 2013.
Gold Nikki Turner, Pharmacy Warehouse Manager, Proctors Road, Lincoln. Prime Minister David Cameron visited the Pharmacy Warehouse in June 2011 to conduct a live Q&A session with an audience of Lincolnshire Co-operative staff. Preparations for the visit had to be completed in just one day. Nikki, who manages the warehouse, was a key part in organising this visit at very short notice and had to co-ordinate colleagues from across the business and from outside organisations including the police, the Prime Minister’s office and the media. The identity of who was visiting also had to be kept secret. Nikki managed this task calmly, discreetly, professionally and with great confidence.
Nikki Turner said: “The whole day was manic from start to finish but it was great as well. I got to work with so many people from across the Society. It showed that we can all pull together and work together as a team. This award is really about everyone who worked hard on that day, it wasn’t just me.
“I’m so proud. I have worked for Lincolnshire Co-op for 22 years and to get something like this for the work I have done is amazing. To know that people appreciate you is very special.” Otters Bridge Filling Station had an average mystery shopper score of 96 per cent. The outlet was visited six times by assessors during 2011.
Manager Lauraine Berry said: “We won the BP mystery shopper award for filling stations last year as well so this is the double! We had a great year and I’m really chuffed. All of us are doing our best to keep it up. I’m lucky to have such a nice team who work so hard and make my job a little easier.”
Lincolnshire Co-operative’s Chief Executive Ursula Lidbetter said: “Our awards evening is always a highlight of my year because it honours one of Lincolnshire Co-operative’s greatest assets – our staff. It celebrates the efforts they make to improve their knowledge and skills and the little things they do every day which add up to great customer service.
“It also gives me great pleasure to give out the special 3 ‘e’s Awards to colleagues that have exceeded everyone’s expectations. This year’s recipients were worthy winners and hearing about what they had accomplished made me even prouder to be part of Lincolnshire Co-operative.”
