Taking the county's business temperature
Lincolnshire businesses are helping to assess the economic outlook for the region by taking part in a survey run by chartered accountants Duncan & Toplis and the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce.
The joint survey is being conducted throughout January and February and the results will provide an insight into how local businesses feel about the state of the local and regional economy.
The results will be formally shared at a special event at the end of March featuring guests speakers from the Bank of England and HSBC.
One-to-one telephone interviews with Lincolnshire business leaders are now taking place, asking questions from salary expectations and growth prospects to observations about the wider economy and the role of business in leading the UK out of the slowdown.
“Our joint economic survey will provide important intelligence about business confidence as well as providing a platform for the business community to have their say on vital economic issues,” said Tim Godson, a partner at Duncan & Toplis based in Lincoln.
“By the end of the survey we hope to have canvassed the views of more than 100 Lincolnshire business people and what they say will be of interest to policy makers and the business community alike.
“This is the first time we have collaborated on such a survey and we hope that this will be an annual exercise from now on.”
Chris Brown, Membership Development for the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce, said, “With the trading conditions as they have been over the past few years, it is fundamental for us to lobby on behalf of our members to the Bank of England and Government.
“This partnership with Duncan & Toplis enables us to show a true, up-to-date representation of the local business environment our members are operating within and some of the issues they are facing.”
The survey is being conducted among both Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce members and clients of Duncan & Toplis.
It features both quantitative research, such as questions about price increases and interest rates, and qualitative research, such as opinions about Coalition economic policy and the role of entrepreneurship in society.
The results will be shared at a breakfast meeting at BG Futures, Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln at 8am on Thursday 29th March.
Booking is essential; to confirm a place at the event please call Chris Brown on 01522 846930 or email.
