Accountancy business goes from strength to strength
A Scunthorpe businessman is proving that there’s life after redundancy after signing up his 25th client in just eighteen months of launching his new accountancy venture.
Mark Stockdale runs Accounts Assist serving the financial needs of clients across North Lincolnshire. He launched the franchised business in March 2010 after being made redundant when HMRC closed its Scunthorpe office. A Tax Officer for 21 years, Mark applied for several jobs without success before deciding to purchase a franchise from Accounts Assist.
Accounts Assist is a national accountancy practice established by Anita Brook, a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants with twenty years experience. Mark and the network of Accounts Assist franchisees receive everything theyneed to launch and run a bookkeeping and accountancy practice, from training and software through to IT equipment and ongoing support.
Mark says, “I really didn’t know what I was going to do when I lost my job. It was a real shock as I’d been there for so long. I sent off CVs and applied for jobs but without success and then thought about being my own boss and using my experience and knowledge to help companies with their payroll and tax needs. As part of researching how to start a business I came across Accounts Assist, a national accountancy practice that offers franchises across the UK.
Eighteen months after launch, Mark is helping 25 small and medium sized companies aswell as individuals, with payroll, bookkeeping and tax advice. The latest company to ask Mark for help is Money Minder, a financial services and insurance broker run by Darren Shaw. Darren says, “Finding well qualified, experienced and reliable bookkeeping and accountancy services at competitive rates is very hard to do but Mark is providing just that. We’re really pleased to be working with him and Mark’s already showing that he can save us time and money, meaning we can concentrate on running our business and helping our clients.”
With the end of the financial year approaching, Mark is looking forward to helping even more companies with their accountancy needs and is urging them to act sooner rather than later.
