Superb children's theatre shows in Grimsby

Grimsby-based children’s theatre promoter Birdhouse is delighted to announce a new programme of events taking place throughout 2012.

Some of the UK’s leading companies will present high quality theatre shows between February and May and the Birdhouse Children’s Theatre Festival will be hosted for a second year, in June. First to take place for young audiences and their families, will be The Way Back Home by award-winning author Oliver Jeffers and presented by Big Wooden Horse Theatre Company and Winchester Theatre Royal.

It will take place during February half term, on Tuesday 14th February, in the theatre space at Oasis Academy Wintringham, with two shows at 11am and 2pm.

The Way Back Home is an intergalactic adventure which follows a boy, who one day finds a plane in his cupboard. He flies his plane higher and higher until he runs out of petrol and lands on the moon. He is lost and alone – until a Martian lands there too! Who is the strange alien? Can they be friends? And how will they find their way back home?

The show also features original music and plenty of audience participation.

A spokesperson for Birdhouse said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming this modern and much-loved story to Grimsby for young audiences and their families to enjoy.

“The forthcoming programme is fantastic as its presenting high quality work from some of the country’s leading theatre companies.”

“We’re grateful to Arts Council England for financially supporting the series which allows Birdhouse to bring the kind of theatre to the area that local young people and their families might not otherwise get the chance to see.”

Tickets for The Way Back Home are £5 for children and £4 for adults, available from Caxton Box Office at Grimsby Library on 01472 346251. For further details visit www.birdhousetheatre.co.uk
