WHAT'S ON

Go gaga for Gadgets and Gizmos at North Lincolnshire Museum

North Lincolnshire Museum glories in gadgets and gizmos for its next captivating exhibition.

Featuring everything from eighties computer games and cassette players to a Victorian mechanical hammer and a fifties food mixer, Gadgets and Gizmos celebrates the inventions that have revolutionised our home life. With a focus on three key eras, the exhibition gives visitors the chance to explore replicas of an eighties living room, a fifties bedroom and a Victorian shop.

Gadgets and Gizmos shows how design innovations have transformed our homes, lightened the load of household chores and kept us entertained. Find out about the jaw-dropping innovations that would have wowed consumers back in the 19th Century and test your prowess on some of the hottest video games of the eighties on a classic Atari console. Hear stories spanning the generations from different families who were recorded as they talked about their own experiences of some of the objects on display. Visitors will also have the chance to design their own gadget of the future and get to grips with gadgets of the past, and there is a play area designed especially for small children and toddlers.

Gadgets and Gizmos runs from Monday 13th February to Saturday 30th June in the main gallery at North Lincolnshire Museum, Oswald Road, Scunthorpe. Admission is free.

North Lincolnshire Council cabinet member Cllr John Briggs says, “Gadgets and Gizmos follows the enormous success of the museum’s Scunthorpe United exhibition and will certainly prove just as entertaining. The exhibition opens in time for the February half term holidays so it’s a marvellous opportunity for all the family to come along and enjoy the latest activities and displays. A Victorian Family Fun Day takes place on Saturday 18th February to celebrate the exhibition opening.”
