Homes

Help to breathe new life into empty homes

Right now there are over a million empty homes in the UK - with 350,000 standing empty for more than six months.

This plight was recently featured on Channel 4’s ‘Great British Homes Scandal.’

In Lincoln, there are around 1,600 privately owned homes standing empty. It's a crying shame that there are so many unused properties whilst thousands of families desperately need their own home, but Lincoln is due to benefit, after the government made £150 million available to tackle some of the worst affected areas.

The City of Lincoln Council, Lindum Construction and Waterloo Housing Group (a registered Charitable Housing Association) have been successful in their bid for funding to work in partnership and are now ready to launch an exciting empty homes pilot project for the city. The project will work with private owners who would want to bring their empty properties back into use.

Waterloo Housing Group and Lindum Construction will carry out refurbishment work on the properties to bring them up to a decent standard, then let and manage the tenancies, and give the owner a proportion of the resulting rental income.

The closing date for owners who want to be considered for this funding is Friday 13th January 2012.
