Cut the cost of fuel bills
Rising gas and electricity prices mean that many people are now concerned about the cost of fuel in their homes.
North Lincolnshire Council is seeking views on a new Government project that may help people to cut their energy costs.
The council would like to know your opinions about the ‘Green Deal’ by completing a short survey on its website.
Your views will help to decide whether the scheme would work in North Lincolnshire and if the council should lead on its delivery.
Under the Green Deal, repayments for energy saving measures are made through people’s energy bills rather than having to pay upfront.
Repayments are calculated so that savings made will always offset the repayment instalments.
Examples include insulation, double-glazing, new central heating boiler, low or renewable energy technologies such as solar panels or air source heat pumps.
The Green Deal works in the following way:
A Green Deal provider sends a surveyor to your home
The surveyor will recommend energy efficiency improvements
You choose which measures you want installed
An accredited Green Deal installer installs the improvements
The Green Deal provider notifies your energy company who add a charge to your energy bill
The costs of the measures are paid off over the agreed period.
Cllr Nigel Sherwood, cabinet member for highways and neighbourhoods said: "With current freezing temperatures and rising fuel costs, everyone is looking to reduce their bills.
“I would urge people to answer these few questions, as it will really help the council to decide whether the Green Deal would work in North Lincolnshire and how best to roll it out.”
If you would like to find out more information visit the Green Deal pages on the North Lincolnshire council website where you can also complete the survey online. http://www.northlincs.gov.uk/NorthLincs/Environment/conservation/energy/The+Green+Deal+survey.htm
