What's new in modern bathrooms?
Experts have found that the latest trend in modern bathrooms is wet rooms.
They also advise that improvements in technology have made them more affordable than ever.
At the recent Homebuilding and Renovating Show, KBSA expert Alan Stanford found that the most common request for information related to improving a bathroom was how to install a wet room.
Alan found that whilst homeowners were keen to add a wet room to their home they did not fully understand the concept and were eager to find out more.
Traditionally the bathroom was always the smallest room in the house and a functional room that didn't really warrant a lot of attention. The bathroom is now a room that commands the very best in quality and design, alongside the kitchen it is now a room that is very important to homeowners.
Alan said: "The demand for wet rooms/walk in shower areas has really increased since last year. In fact, it is clear that wet rooms really are the new choice for bathroom upgrades and new builds and thanks to advances in technology and manufacturing processes, the wet room is no longer the preserve of the well-heeled.
"Wet rooms offer flexibility and versatility in terms of design opportunities and in maximising the investment potential of your home.
"The beauty for homeowners is that they are ideal for both large and small spaces, windowless box rooms, downstairs toilets or part of a large bedroom. A more spacious room can be created by removing a bath and installing a wet room and for very small spaces a screen can be used to control the spray of water but you can still l have the wet room effect.
"The other advantage is that they also work well for the elderly, those who are less mobile and children too as there is no awkward step up to get into the shower, making them accessible and safe.
Manufacturers have risen to meet the demand for modern bathrooms. Products such as walk in showers with body jets, flooring options and tiling are all readily available to create the perfect wet room.
It is however important to get the job done properly as the floor underneath the wet room floor tiles should be protected well to avoid any expensive disasters from water seeping out of the wet room into the ceiling below.
Take advice from a KBSA retailer, a specialist who will have the knowledge of which products will work best in the space you have available and with the expertise to create imaginative designs to make the best use of the space.
