Fundraising boost for Accident and Emergency

Children taken to Pilgrim Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit will be able to watch television and keep their minds off their troubles – thanks to a local charity.

The Sparkledust charity raised money for the flat screen television and stand, along with another screen in the childrens’ treatment room and a freeview box.

The donation followed a successful fundraising Ball by the charity and a generous discount by the Comet store which enabled the hospital to buy £500 worth of equipment for just £250.

Charity fundraiser Leanne Belton, who works as a gynaecology nurse at Pilgrim, said: “Our first charity Ball was three years ago and because we are all parents and two of us are nurses, the hospital is very close to our hearts. So we decided this year we would make this donation for the children and the benefit of local families.

“We are holding another charity Ball, a Valentine’s Ball, on 11th February at Boston Rugby Club. Tickets are £37.50 on 01205 750903. We will be raising money for Make a Wish Boston and SANDS, the stillbirth association.”

Simon Horniblow, Staff Nurse – Equipment Lead, said: “This is especially useful for the children as it will help to keep them distracted while in the unit.”
