Further spot checks for Lincoln County Hospital
Following a critical report last year, more spot checks are expected for the Hospital
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited the hospital last year in November, where they stated in a critical report that the Hospital had “unacceptable failings,” in particular in the Clayton ward, which is responsible for looking after the most elderly patients. Following this revelation the CQC also made a spot check in January 2012, to see if their concerns had been seen to. As of yet the report of that visit has not been released. David Levy, Medical Director of United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust (ULHT) says “We are confident of a strong report after the changes we’ve made.” Their own research suggested that the failings were due mostly to a shortage of nurses at that particular time.
Despite this further checks are expected throughout the year, the necessary changes include making sure patients get safe and appropriate care, making sure any and all dietary requirements are met, and training staff and support to the appropriate levels.
Andrea Gordon, CQC Deputy Director of Operations said in November, “Some of these issues related to the dignity of people, accuracy of records, and the risk this poses, as well as numbers of staff and support and training they had been given to do their jobs. These are issues of real concern and we have demanded that improvements are made.”
