North East Lincolnshire to face lower speed limits

NELC have proposed a £500,000 scheme which could see over a hundred roads cut to lower speed limits.

This comes as part of a drive to save lives and reduce accidents on roads, the response is to cut the speed limits of over a hundred roads throughout the area. Road safety campaigners responded well to the proposal, which would effect such roads as the A180, the A18, and the A1136.

This will not only effect roads currently at 60mph, because the proposal also suggests limiting many village roads to just 20mph. A representative from Balfour Beatty also revealed that the major decision, on the A180, could see the limit reduced from 70 to 50mph, as well as adding more speed cameras to the area.

The reason for this sudden development is the NELC’s attempts to comply with Government targets of halving the number of children killed or injured on roads by 2020. Despite this, no children were killed between June 2006 and 2011, although an average of ten was injured. According to the scheme however, an injury could range from bone fractures, to mild shock or bruises.
