Trading standards want your scam mail
As part of the Scamnesty campaign, Trading Standards are targeting fraudulent companies preying on North East Lincolnshire
It is likely that all of us have been subject to a potential scam at some point or another, whether we fell for it or simply ignored it, the Government has never really taken part in identifying and prosecuting such individuals. Until now.
Cleethorpes residents are being encouraged to collect any of the scam mail or leaflets that are being distributed, and deposit them into one of many “scamnesty” boxes, that can be found in all NE Lincs libraries and customer access points in Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Immingham. This comes as a result of a recent aimed scam marketing attempt at the elderly in the area. Trading Standards will review the material provided, in order to see whether any fraudulent trading is taking place.
Common scams include fake lottery and prize draws, get rich quick schemes and miracle cures for any number of ailments. Though millions of people regularly ignore such material, many more fall for such schemes, and it is estimated that £3.5 billion a year is lost in the country. The vulnerable and elderly are most often targeted.
