Lincolnshire energy firm still hoping for approval
The company behind the rejected wind farm plans for Heckington still hope for final approval
The plan, proposed by Ecotricity, was to build an energy efficient wind farm in the Heckington area which would include 22 turbines. This was in line with Government’s current plans for energy, and yet was turned down by the local council on account of the damage it might have on historical fenland, and the cumulative impacts arising from the current Bicker wind farm.
Despite this initial setback however, the ultimate decision will be made by the Secretary for State for Energy and Climate Change, because technically the project is considered of national importance, and will increase England’s onshore wind capacity by more than 3%.
Sleaford MP Stephen Phillips says “Whether you are a believer or a sceptic when it comes to climate change, perhaps we can all agree that utilising the abundant wind resources available in the UK, is beneficial not just to reduce emissions, but to ensure energy security when fossil fuels inevitably become scarcer.”
The project also drew support from Greenpeace, and at the moment seems likely to receive the final go ahead from the Government. However there is a chance that there may be further public enquiry before this comes to pass.
