Camper vans pitching up in a 'first' for Lincoln
Owners of that much-loved reminder of Summertime holidays and weekend getaways, the VW CamperVan, are setting their SatNavs on course for Lincoln.
In an ‘events first,’ Lincoln BIG has teamed-up with camper van specialists Pete and Barbara Senneck to stage a VW Camper Day at the Brayford Waterfront.
On Saturday 18th March, scores of vehicles – many uniquely customised by their devoted owners – will be bringing an extra splash of colour and nostalgia to the heart of the city.
Pete, who owns GTA, a camper van restoration business in Sutterton (between Boston and Spalding), and who has masterminded the 2012 and 2011 Van Jamborees at the Lincolnshire Showground, said visitors to the Brayford area will be able to check out a variety of vans and chat to their owners.
The Camper Van meet-up, which is expected to prove a very popular addition to Lincoln BIG’s busy 2012 events calendar, will also feature a ‘show and shine’ where proud van owners aim to out-do each other in a bid to drive off with the trophies of the day.
Mr Senneck said: “There will also be stalls where Camper Van fans can pick-up bits for their vehicle or memorabilia, as well as VW clothing, to remind them of a great day out in the city. Other attractions include a live band and fancy dress prizes.”
Lincoln BIG events and promotions manager Michael Armstrong said: “We are thrilled to be able to announce this special addition to our events programme this year.
“The Brayford Waterfront is a fabulous area for this type of get-together and we are hoping for the bonus of good weather. The fun starts at 10am and lasts right through until 4pm – so people can combine this event with a spot of shopping and eating out while they’re at it!”
