Lincoln Green are parking up the right tree

The elite of the car parking world will gather in London on March 9 for the National Parking Awards – and City of Lincoln Council officers have been shortlisted for two awards.

The council’s parking team is in the running for the ‘Parking and the Environment Award’ for its Lincoln Green campaign, which has seen low-energy lighting and electric car charging points installed in the city’s car parks. The council will need to see off competition from the private and public sector, including St Edmundsbury Borough Council and Ultra Global PRT and BAA, for the Heathrow pods.

Team Leader, Rod Williamson has also been shortlisted for the ‘Parking Person of the Year Award’ for his commitment and passion for parking services, managing to achieve a 32 per cent increase in income and a nine per cent decrease in costs over the past five years, despite a challenging national trend for the parking industry as a whole. The title of the entry was ‘A Man for all Parking Seasons’ - as Rod can be seen almost every working day, throughout the four seasons, visiting the operational sites in rain, sunshine, gales and snow.

The City Council owns and manages 20 car parks in Lincoln, used by more than 1.5 million cars every year.

Councillor Neil Murray, Portfolio Holder for Planning Policy and Economic Regeneration at the City of Lincoln Council, said: “We work hard in Lincoln to make sure our car parks offer a top quality, value for money service, so it’s great to see the team nationally recognised, and competing well against large, private sector companies as well as other public sector providers. One of the council’s key priorities is to reduce the city’s carbon footprint, so it’s especially pleasing to see one of our flagship Lincoln Green schemes commended.”
