Louth Basketball Programme awarded 2012 Inspire Mark
A Louth sports programme has received national recognition from the organisers of London 2012.
The Three Pointer Basketball development programme based at the Meridian Leisure Centre and Cordeaux School has been granted the Inspire Mark, an accolade only awarded to initiatives that meet the values of London 2012, including community participation and skills development.
Three Pointer is a partnership between Louth Storm Basketball Team and East Lindsey District Council and gives people of all ages the chance to take part in basketball with sessions run by qualified England Basketball Coaches. The programme encourages people to play basketball in their local community.
Club Organiser, Fiona McBurnie, said: “We would like to thank the Council for its support and help with promoting Louth Storm as the pinnacle of East Lindsey Basketball through the Basketball Programme. The Inspire Mark means our programme is endorsed by London 2012 which is great news for the club and the local area. We hope it will inspire young people to take part in basketball as a way of participating in an active and healthy lifestyle – we always welcome new participants!”
Olympic Champion for Lincolnshire and Leader of East Lindsey District Council, Councillor Doreen Stephenson, said East Lindsey was working hard to deliver on the values of London 2012: “We want more people locally to take part in sports and Three Pointer is another important programme. We are keen to raise the profile of the work underway in East Lindsey to provide more sporting and cultural activities and our connections with London 2012 through Inspire Mark are creating some important economic and community opportunities for East Lindsey as we approach the Olympic year.”
Three Pointer sessions take place as follows:
•Monday at 4pm for under 14’s at Cordeaux School
•Saturday at 7pm for under 18’s at the Meridian Leisure Centre
