Lincs Hospitals highly commended in national award
The Clinical Research Facility at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust has been ‘highly commended’ at the National Health Service Journal Awards.
The awards recognise the best innovation, ideas and dedication in healthcare and this year report to have had an exceptional level of entries with more than 1,000 entries across 18 categories. The HSJ congratulated all those who were shortlisted, stating this as a huge accomplishment.
United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust was one of eight organisations shortlisted in the category of ‘embedding a research culture’. The Trust was highly commended, putting them as one of the top three organisations for developing clinical research.
Since 2004 the number of clinical trials and studies undertaken in the Trusts’ hospitals has increased from 12 to almost 200. The number of staff in the team has increased from 3 to 40 and income generated by trials has risen from £4500 to £1.424million.
Clinical trials now take place at ULHT in a range of areas including cancer, stroke, diabetes, paediatrics, dementia & neurodegenerative diseases. The Trust is at the leading edge of several fields, enabling patients to receive some of the latest treatments available.
Dr Tanweer Ahmed, Director of Lincolnshire Clinical Research Facility said; “This is very exciting news for the Lincolnshire Clinical Research Facility, its dedicated hard working staff and the Trust. This recognises the hard work within ULHT in further improving patient care, helping to set up specialist clinical services and developing new treatments.”
