New sports clubs for Lincolnshire
Following £1 billion in national funding, 80 new sports clubs will be created in Lincolnshire
The new scheme put forward by the Government should see every single secondary school in the county offered a community sport club on its site, with a direct link to one or more national governing bodies for sport. The idea is that the only way to truly increase participation across the county is to start on the local level, and engage the young audience.
The priority is to get people between the ages of 14 and 25 back into performing regular sports for fun, as there had been a noticeable decrease in the younger generations taking part in recreational sport, outside compulsory school events.
The scheme could see Lincolnshire’s first ever fencing club opened in 2013, and there is even a second lacrosse centre in the plans. By spreading the sites out across the county, the government are desperate to create a situation where any club is within easy walking or cycling distance, and motor travel will be unnecessary.
Chief Executive of the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, Janet Inman said “There are some really positive messages to come out of this strategy. There has always been significant money being pumped into sport but it’s all been going in at the top end!”
