MOTOR RACING

Fourth podium in four races for Lincolnshire driver

F3 driver Jack Harvey recorded his fourth podium in four races at the latest round of the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 at Rockingham.

Following another tightly contested qualifying session, the Racing Steps Foundation-backed driver lined his Carlin car up on the third row of the grid for Saturday’s race one and finished in third place, securing the final podium position.

The weather on Sunday took a turn for the worst and saw Harvey and the rest of the F3 grid faced with torrential rain and cold track conditions for race two. Starting sixth on the grid and on new tyres, Harvey had a difficult start to the race as he was unable to generate heat into his new tyres which resulted in him dropping down through the field to sixteenth place. In the treacherous conditions Harvey was able to make up a couple of places and move up to fourteenth but, struggling with cold tyres, was unable to make any more progress before the chequered flag fell.

The rain had stopped for race three but the wet track meant Harvey started with wets in fifth place on the grid. The safety car was brought out for the third time over the weekend on lap seven. Harvey maintained his position at the restart and brought his car home in sixth.

Jack says, “It’s great to be coming away with another podium finish and some more solid Championship points. It’s been a month since the last race and there’s always a risk of breaking the momentum of the last race but we’ve succeeded in keeping it going. With only two more rounds of the season to go in the Championship our focus will be to continue to deliver consistent results so we can climb our way up the standings."

Jack is currently lying ninth in the Championship with 92 points and heads next to Donnington on 24th September.
