Monte Carlo Rally zooms back to Olde Bell Hotel
There was a tremendous turnout with over 200 spectators at Ye Olde Bell Hotel and Restaurant at Barnby Moor, acting once again as a checkpoint for the 101st Monte Carlo Rally.
It has now become quite a landmark in the hotel's calendar of events, ever since it first arrived in 1959.
Weather conditions were great, but unfortunately many competitors were still running late and there were a number of breakdowns and non-arrivals. The hotel offered hot soup and bacon rolls and would like to thank all the spectators for attending and for their patience.
It is 101 years since the first Monte Carlo Rally in 1911, started by Prince Albert I of Monaco as an endurance and adventure to drive the 2053 kilometres/2190 miles in their classic cars over the frozen Alps in winter into the sunshine of Monaco and immortalised in the 1969 film “Monte Carlo or Bust”. In that year only 16 out of 23 cars made it.
