Fuel bills reduced by 900,000 with H.E.L.P

Lincolnshire people have reduced their yearly fuel bills by almost £900,000, thanks to a county-wide insulation scheme.

By providing free or discounted insulation for residents, the Home Energy Lincs Partnership (H.E.L.P) scheme as helped to install 13,225 insulation measures – including loft and cavity wall insulation – giving an expected annual combined reduction in fuel bills of £888,685.

As well as financial savings, the scheme estimates a combined reduction in C02 emissions of 4,899 tonnes across the county, which ties in with the City of Lincoln Council’s strategic priority of reducing Lincoln’s carbon footprint.

For Lincoln households, the savings add up to £87,480, and 483 tonnes of C02 emissions. Councillor Fay Smith, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services and Public Protection at the City of Lincoln Council, said: “We’ve committed to reducing the city’s carbon footprint, but we know we can’t do it on our own, so anything we can do to help households to get their homes insulated will add to that effort.

"This scheme is fantastic – it’s good value and helps people to save money as well as reducing their individual carbon footprints.”

Dave Bowskill, Housing Energy Officer at the City of Lincoln Council, said: “Adequate loft insulation and can reduce heating bills by up to £140 every year, with cavity wall insulation reducing annual bills by around £110. Given the rise in fuel prices and the severity of recent winters, the payback time for H.E.L.P insulation measures is three to six months, so it makes sense to take advantage of the financial help.”

Launched in August 2010, H.E.L.P is a partnership between Lincolnshire local authorities, in association with the Energy Saving Trust. Insulation is provided free to the over 70s or those in receipt of qualifying benefits, and is significantly discounted for everyone else.

The discounted prices are £49 for cavity wall insulation and £79 for loft insulation. Subject to certain conditions, the scheme is available to home owners, private landlords and private tenants across Lincolnshire.

Anyone who would like more information on the HELP scheme, or would like to arrange a free, no obligation survey can contact the Energy Saving Trust on 0800 512 012. H.E.L.P advisors wear hi-visibility vests and carry identification showing the H.E.L.P logo.
