Lincolnshire racing driver secures maiden victory

Bassingham racing driver Jack Harvey has secured his maiden Formula 3 International Series win at the Nurburgring in Germany.

The Lincolnshire driver had the strongest weekend of his 2011 season to date and secured a commanding victory in race two.

Qualifying on Saturday didn’t go entirely according to plan for the young Brit with set up issues causing problems with the balance of the car. P11 was the best that Jack could draw from his Carlin car and saw him line up for race one on row six of the grid. Jack made a lightning start in race one and gained five places heading into turn one. After fifteen laps of racing, Harvey crossed the finish line in seventh place, picking up four Championship points.

The reverse grid for race two saw Jack line up on the first row of the grid in P1. The Carlin driver made a faultless start and overtook pole-sitter Svendenson-Cook from the off. The safety car was deployed on lap two and stayed out for two laps, bunching the field back up. Jack held his position at the restart and was quickly able to pull out a comfortable gap ahead of Svendenson-Cook. Jack continued to push hard throughout the race and in the process set the fastest lap of the race. Jack drove a faultless race and crossing the finish line after ten laps of racing, picked up a further eleven Championship points and his first win in his rookie season in British F3.

Jack says, “It is a great feeling to have notched up my first win in my rookie season in British F3. It is testament to all the hard work that the Carlin team have put in and the progress we have made together in the first half of the season. It is our best weekend of the season to date result-wise but we do still have some work to do in qualifying. We have the pace to be qualifying regularly in the top six so now we need to work at ironing out a few remaining set up issues so that we are qualifying in a position that will allow us to be regularly fighting for the top points.

“I’m looking forward to the next race weekend in two weeks time which will be at Paul Ricard. We will be looking to continue the momentum from this weekend and hopefully secure some more podium finishes."
