Distinguished citizens in Lincoln

With Manchester City currently riding high at the top of the league, two of their former stars made a timely appearance at the latest event held by the Lincoln Sportsmans’ Club at the Bentley Hotel.

It was a family affair too as Mike Summerbee was joined by his son Nicky.

Mike Summerbee is a City idol, having been a part of their last title-winning team back in 1968. He spent a highly successful decade at the club in which they won the league title, the FA Cup and the Cup Winners’ Cup. His son Nicky played for the club during a less distinguished spell in their history as they battled relegation but he enjoyed success elsewhere, not least at Sunderland where he helped them to promotion to the Premier League and was proven to have a better cross accuracy than David Beckham!

As ever the Sportsmans’ Club made a donation to a rising star, in this case Josh Pettinger, a promising young hockey player who has already represented his country at under-fifteen level.
