Ultimate holiday goosebump moments revealed
Brits forget about fly and flop. UK holiday makers identified as an active, daring and sharing bunch, with their best holidays created by learning, seeing and doing...
Research released today reveals that when it comes to holidays, the British travelling public are active, destination driven, have a desire to learn or try something new and most significantly are looking for that simply unforgettable moment when away, a memory that will stay with them for a lifetime.
Identified as goosebump moments, these memory makers can come in all shapes and sizes, with 69% of Brits revealing breath taking scenery or seeing something they’ve always wanted to see are the most likely to make the hairs on the back on their neck tingle. Whilst doing something they never thought they would also stands out on the list.
Furthermore, a third of people surveyed say sharing their experiences with loved ones on holiday is vital for creating unforgettable holiday memories, while one in ten say learning something new always sticks in their mind long after they’ve returned home. This can be compared to the less than 1% who rate souvenirs they have purchased as their favourite type of holiday memory.
When asked to think about their ultimate holiday and what made it so special, nearly 60% surveyed by Travel Alberta said the destination was somewhere they had always wanted to go, while half said the fact their partner and family also enjoyed it made it one never to forget. Holiday cuisine also ranks highly, with a quarter saying food made their trip, while for one fifth of males it is all about having the ultimate adventure.
When it comes to goosebump moments and how they might be achieved when travelling – the Northern lights, helicopters, white water rafting and climbing a mountain all rate highly*. According to Dominic Gill, the adventure traveller who travelled from Alaska to Agentina on a tandem bicycle, this change in holiday requirements is not surprising. He comments, “I think all of us realise that holidays are now a chance to do something out of the ordinary and whilst that needs to include rest and relaxation, having an adventure, seeing something you always wanted to see or doing something you always wanted to do is also hugely significant.”
He continues, “It’s so interesting that Travel Alberta have undertaken this research as for me, Alberta in Canada is one of those places where everyone, no matter your age or situation can have their goosebump moments. Whether it is taking the gondola up to the top of the Rockies in Banff, having a true cowboy experience or seeing the northern lights in Alberta North, this is the place for everyone to have their own adventure."
