Lincolnshire businesses given chance to pitch for Dragon style finance

Lincolnshire’s entrepreneurs who are looking for support from an investor have the chance once more to pitch for financial backing with Taming the Dragon 3, a Dragon’s Den style investor event to be hosted in Lincoln.

The evening, organised by Streets Chartered Accountants, Lincolnshire Investment Network, NatWest and Sills & Betteridge Solicitors, will provide the chance for four businesses to pitch to a panel of local ‘dragons’ who are all genuine potential investors. Those businesses looking to pitch will receive guidance on how to make an effective pitch, which hopefully will see them secure funding, whether it is a few thousand pounds or one hundred thousand pounds.

Whilst the ultimate outcome for any business pitching must be to seek to secure funding, the event serves to guide and support entrepreneurs and those watching the process. Certainly the business ideas that were pitched last year benefited from the panel’s commercial acumen and wisdom.

Tom Whittaker of Innovosys Ltd pitched his idea of a mobile payment and management app for self-employed trades people and through his pitch, was able to secure a £150,000 investment from a local businessman.

Commenting on what securing the funding meant to him, Tom said: “After 12 months on the hunt for investment, pitching at Taming the Dragon secured two follow up meetings with investors, one of which evolved to completed investment. Investment was essential for the continued development of Trade Clients, our mobile invoicing and payments app for self employed trades professionals. Trade Clients is now available on the App Store and Google Play, has had nearly 1000 downloads since June this year and enabled us to win Best Start-Up at this year’s Lincolnshire Digital Awards.”

Looking forward to this year’s event James Pinchbeck, Marketing Partner at Streets Chartered Accountants, one of the event hosts said: “Whilst there are many new business ventures or entrepreneurial ideas out there, the ability of their founders to exploit their true potential is often impaired by the inability to secure funding.

“Certainly the ability to secure financial backing and advice from a dragons den style investor is a great run to seeing a new business venture fly. This particular event offers the chance to hone and develop a pitch whilst at the same time secure financial backing.”

If you are a budding entrepreneur or a business looking for a dragon style investor, there is still time to put yourself forward to pitch. To apply please email Sarah Whitaker at the Lincolnshire Investment Network info@lincolnshireinvestment.net or call her on 01522 837269.

The closing date for submissions is Friday 30th October. If you would like to see for yourself what making a pitch entails then you can book a place to attend by contacting Sarah Whitaker or by visiting www.streetsweb.co.uk/events
