A volunteer group that works closely with North Lincolnshire council’s Environment team has been awarded for their community work.

The volunteers were voted as Community Champions at the Co-Op in Westcliff and were given a cheque for £532.20. The group, alongside other community groups, applied to the Co-Op for a grant and customers at the Westcliff shop voted for their favourite group.

The North Lincolnshire Conservation Volunteers won and are going to put the money towards the Time Trail project.

The Time Trail will provide information panels at key historical sites throughout North Lincolnshire. An historic and educational book will also be created about Life on Atkinson’s Warren through the eyes of the descendants of a Gamekeeper. The booklet is based on family memories and photographs taken throughout the 1900s.

Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire attended the cheque presentation, he said: “I wanted to say a big ‘thank you’ to the North Lincolnshire Conservation Volunteers for their dedication to the local community and environment.

“They work closely with our Environment team and help maintain local nature reserves in North Lincolnshire. Looking after our nature reserves is a huge task and their support is invaluable.

“The Time Trail is an exciting project that will provide information about North Lincolnshire’s history and provide an insight into Atkinson’s Warren and how it developed over the years.”
