In Bloom group begins planting in Scunthorpe

Residents and visitors to Scunthorpe will notice flowers popping up across the town as new planters and baskets are brought in by the Scunthorpe and Ashby in Bloom group.

The new floral arrangements will be on the town’s main thoroughfares and busier roads including Doncaster Road, Ashby Road, Frodingham Road, Grange Lane South, Lakeside Parkway, Queensway, and Scunthorpe and Ashby high streets.

The Scunthorpe and Ashby in Bloom group first met in April after the council committed £100,000 to the project. The group is made up of representatives from the council, local businesses and individuals with an aim to brighten up the town with flowers.

Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council and Chair of the group, said: “We started the group to give the town a colourful lift with attractive floral displays that would be a source of pride for local residents and welcoming for visitors.

“Having had our first meeting only back in April, we’ve managed to get the new planters and baskets out along the town’s main arteries already so we can all start to enjoy Scunthorpe and Ashby looking their best.

“The investment from the council has helped set up the group but going forward we’re keen for more community groups, businesses and individuals come on board with us to help the group grow and further flower-up the town.

“Thanks to council support, there are lots of groups across North Lincolnshire thriving with involvement from the community and we’d love to see this in Scunthorpe too.”
