Lincoln nursery unveils £200,000 transformation

A children’s day nursery in Lincoln, Children 1st @ The Marina, has been given a top to toe, internal and external make-over to create a stimulating learning environment for children aged from 6 months to 5 years.

The nursery is part of Children 1st Day Nurseries, the UK’s largest family run group of day nurseries. The company has invested £200,000 into the refurbishment of the setting and it is the company’s third large scale refurbishment project of a Lincoln nursery following the redevelopments of Children 1st @ Wragby Road and Children 1st @ Rosemary Lane.

Children 1st @ The Marina, located at Brayford Pool, close to the Lincoln University campus, has been transformed to provide quality resources and opportunities to stimulate children’s all-round development through play.

Each age group has its own dedicated space designed to help children progress and meet their developmental milestones. The transformation starts outside with the creation of colourful and exciting places to stimulate the children’s sense of adventure, physical development and creative play.

Inside, these themes continue with all areas benefitting from being redesigned to promote independent learning and stimulate curiosity whilst also providing areas for quiet times and relaxing. The reconfiguration of the original rooms involving the removal of some internal walls has enabled better use of space.

This more effective use of space has resulted in enlarged, refurbished outdoor learning areas for each age group which offer a free flow from inside to out.

There is also a dedicated baby suite, where little ones have their own completely separate indoor and outdoor space, giving them the room they need to explore their world with growing confidence. The building also boasts an air conditioning system to keep everyone cool in the hot summer months.

Children 1st Day Nurseries’ Managing Director, Adrian Mason says: “Our experienced design and building team has done a wonderful job in further improving the facilities at Children 1st @ The Marina for children to enjoy. We purchased three nurseries in Lincoln in 2016 and all have now undergone large scale transformation projects totalling over £1 million. I believe we have created some of the best nursery environments in the UK for children in Lincoln.

“I’m delighted that this project has proceeded at pace with this major refurbishment taking just 6 months, despite the impact of the Covid-19 lockdown. Keeping the nursery open over recent months whilst the work was ongoing was a challenge but what we have achieved is a reflection of the cooperation and understanding shown by everyone involved. I would like to thank all families for their support during this time.”

Elaine Cox, Nursery Manager at Children 1st @ The Marina, says: “It’s a joy to see how much the children are enjoying their new nursery. Many children have missed out on attending nursery for months so it’s great to be able to welcome them back this September with a transformed nursery for them to enjoy.”
