Every Wednesday throughout the school holidays (Wednesday 25 July to Wednesday 29 August) there will be free RAF-themed bike rides with Access Lincoln.
Each ride will follow an attractive, traffic-free route from Lincoln to Doddington Hall, created especially for the RAF 100 celebrations. The route takes you out along the Fossdyke Canal, then through fields and woods that once bordered RAF Skellingthorpe.
Once at Doddington Hall, there will be time for refreshments, a sweet treat or a light bite to eat before your return to the city.
Led by a Lincoln tour guide, the ride will feature interesting facts and air force anecdotes giving a true insight into how the RAF impacted on Lincoln.
Alison Mackfall, Access Lincoln project co-ordinator, said: “It can be difficult to find something that all the family can enjoy during the school holidays without breaking the bank.
“These free cycle rides are the ideal opportunity for you to spend time with your family and friends, see some of our beautiful countryside and get a little exercise. And we’ve got our fingers crossed that the weather will be on our side!”
Each ride begins at 11.30am, departing from the Lincoln Cycle Hub, located at Lincoln Railway Station, St. Mary’s Street, Lincoln LN5 7EQ. Cyclists will return to the city by 3pm.
The cycle rides are free, although donations to the Royal Air Forces Association and the Jon Egging Trust are welcome.
Each ride is limited to 20 people.
