Each year Lincolnshire Today Magazine invites a select panel of the region’s business leaders to offer up their predictions for the year ahead. It has become something of a tradition, given that we’ve been doing this now for over 30 years. And, while none of us possess a crystal ball, it is uncanny how accurate some of these forecasts have been.
Here we catch up with Bruce Spencer-Knott, MD of Minster Surfacing.
2018 has been an incredible year for us and for Lincolnshire, where we’re based. I can’t recall a time when we’ve ever seen so much investment in the area and that’s been excellent for us and for other businesses involved in the construction supply chain.
This year we’ve completed our biggest jobs to date, worked on the largest NATO airbase in Europe, won a string of awards and we’ve used 70,000 tonnes of asphalt repairing roads in Lincolnshire alone.
Although a lot of other businesses may be eyeing the new year with caution and uncertainty, as far as I’m concerned 2019 is an even more exciting year for Minster Surfacing.
In large part, that’s down to the continuing investment in this country’s infrastructure. In the Budget, the Chancellor announced £420 million that is to be invested in roads, of which £116 million is to be spent in the East Midlands. This is a terrific investment and we’re already seeing the benefits of this with lots more work being planned for the year ahead.
This is in addition to the £28.8bn being invested in England’s motorways and major local routes. Combined, these investments will bring real improvements for the whole country and it will keep road surfacing firms like us very busy – desire for us to port our services nationwide has never been stronger.
