That’s the question on everyone’s minds – along with that of whether it’s going to be a new year or more of the same. There’s no questioning the latter half of 2022 was painful, and that the first half of 2023 will probably be more of the same as we try to recover, but there is hope that the second half of the year might see an easing up – though it’s obviously impossible to know for sure. Lincolnshire itself has been through many turbulent times throughout history, and it’s possible that people will look back on this in fifty or a hundred years and comment on it. It’s been a cold Christmas for some, even as others celebrate in warmth, and that divide is something that can split a community straight down the middle. The county has survived and thrived because of its community, and here’s to hoping that community spirit helps our most vulnerable through this year as well. In our January issue we look at reinventing yourself – be this your home, your fitness, your goals or even picking up a new hobby. The focus is all about not only what options are available, but how to get the most out of a new year, and advice on how to keep to those pesky new years resolutions that always seem to slip on by. Lincolnshire County Council, working in partnership with local district councils, has drawn up three new strategies – one for Grantham, one Sleaford, and one for Skegness and Mablethorpe – that aim to improve transport and support future development to 2036 and beyond. Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “The overall purpose of these new transport strategies is to provide the people, businesses and organisations in towns they serve with a transport system that helps meet their daily needs now and in the future.” A deal has been agreed for the acquisition of Scunthorpe United by a local group headed by Simon Elliott and Ian Sharp. The National League club will now work with them during the final due diligence and transition into their ownership over the coming weeks. Former owner Peter Swann said: “We needed to ensure that the club wages for November were paid as soon as possible, which will happen later today or tomorrow thanks to the deal and ensure the long-term future of the football club with new investment.” COO and chairman Lee Turnbull said in a statement: “We warmly welcome long-standing Scunthorpe United supporters Ian Sharp and Simon Elliott to the Football Club. Both have worked tirelessly to secure the future of the Iron and after many long hours have finally achieved their goal by agreeing a deal with Mr Swann. “I wish Peter and Karin Swann well, whatever the future holds. Their financial support over the last 10 years has been vital to sustain Scunthorpe United.” Creative crowdfunding project aims to release new money to local organisations A brand-new way of helping creative ideas get a step on the ladder is being launched by Grimsby Creates. Business expert and author Clare Bailey supported the Love Lincolnshire Wolds Conference to explore opportunities businesses can take during the current climate, and how collaboration can be key to success. A panel of local experts was also invited to talk about a range of topics including tourism support, digital marketing, campaign marketing, how to make sustainability a reality, creating bookable experiences and cycle tourism. Speakers were also challenged to provide two top tips that delegates could go away and implement as an action from attending the event. Cllr Paul Howitt-Cowan, Chair of the Leisure, Culture, Events and Tourism Group at West Lindsey District Council attended the event. He said: “The Lincolnshire Wolds is a key attractor for visitors to West Lindsey and beyond. I was privileged to attend the conference at the Market Rasen Racecourse, to hear from key speakers and local business about the work that is taking place. “The Lincolnshire Wolds is a truly authentic tourist attraction and contributes significantly to the quality of life, economy, employment and local community thanks to the partnership we have here.” Tourism consultants Keith Blundell and Richard Smith from TEAM Tourism also delivered a workshop that encouraged businesses to prioritise four core propositions, developed through consultants and research, which would then feed into the refreshed Destination Management Plan. This plan will then help focus what both Councils, and the partnership should work on over the next five years. The ISILDUR Project, run by Lincoln Institute for Agri-Food Technology (LIAT), part of the University of Lincoln, aims to address labour shortages in the forest nursery sector by developing intelligent robotics solutions for plant processing. A total of £20 million was awarded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) to organisations throughout the country to improve tree planting stocks, woodland resilience, domestic timber production and to accelerate tree planting across England. LIAT’s award of almost £300,000 is part of the Tree Production Innovation Fund, which aims to support innovative projects that explore how new technologies and ways of working can enhance the quantity, quality, and diversity of the tree planting stock in England. Lincolnshire County Council secures £3m to support East Midlands manufacturing sector The East Midlands Growth Hubs, led by Lincolnshire County Council, have successfully bid to secure £3m to support East Midlands manufacturing sector businesses over the next two and a half years. The Government is extending the Made Smarter Programme to the East Midlands following a proposition from Lincolnshire County Council and the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership. The investment is estimated to generate £80m in additional productivity, based on data from other Made Smarter Adoption Programmes. Cllr Colin Davie, executive councillor for economy at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “This funding supports small and medium sized manufacturing firms to boost their productivity by implementing digital technology and improving leadership and management skills.” New £16m special school takes shape St Lawrence School in Horncastle is being rebuilt as part of a multi- million-pound investment in facilities for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The new school will be able to cater to all needs and will offer spaces to both primary and secondary-aged pupils. It will provide 17 classrooms, including three specifically designed for pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties, featuring hoists and sensory corners. There will be a new hall and studio, allowing the school to offer rebound therapy and physical education, as well as therapy spaces for soft play, sensory play and physiotherapy. These will be complemented by areas for life skills and social recreation and calm and group spaces. The new block will also provide hygiene facilities, a staff workspace, offices and meeting rooms. Work is progressing at pace, and the steel structure of the new building is now in place. latest news © stock.adobe.com/ ipopba © stock.adobe.com/ allouphoto 06-11.qxp_Layout 1 12/12/2022 14:45 Page 3Despite uncertainties in the housing market, retirement property company, Lusso Homes are reporting significant interest in their unique luxury living model. Their flagship site Tye’s Close in Ludford, a small village on the edge of the Lincolnshire wolds, will feature no more than 9 homes, designed for the over 45s. Unlike traditional park estates, each property benefits from large, landscaped gardens, allowing residents to enjoy the outdoor space while soaking up 360-degree views of the outstanding scenery. As well as being set in rolling countryside, Lusso homes can offer superior, custom-built decking, garages, outdoor storage and even hot tubs, all of which add to the overall exclusivity of this raised standard of park home living. The properties available were advertised in a relatively low-key campaign which invites private viewings ahead of a public open day. The same day as the advert went out, they gave their first tour of the site with a constant flurry of interest since. Could this new model of gated community living be the future of downsizing? It certainly would seem that Lusso has hit the nail on the head for couples looking to retire and downsize their homes without losing their space, privacy or standard of living. Comments from interested parties so far have indicated this, “The way you have set out the plots is, without doubt, the best site we have seen in our 3-year search….Tye’s Close layout ensures none of the homes are overlooked, with the landscaped gardens making each plot very private…We can clearly see why the homes are priced as they are given the exclusivity and undoubtedly great value for money & due to the limited supply will only go up in value rather than traditional parks” Following years of uncertainty, it’s become obvious that people are seeking more enjoyment from their time spent at home and with Lusso’s mantra being “Downsize your home, upgrade your lifestyle” it seems this upgraded model of park home living is the perfect fit in the current climate.
