< PreviousSpalding February 11 Where is Mrs. Christie? - South Holland Centre Agatha Christie was one of the greatest thriller writers of all time. In 1926, she was at the centre of a mystery as perplexing as any of her fiction, a series of events which sparked one of the biggest and most extensive police hunts in history. Her crashed car was discovered in Surrey and the famous author was missing, presumed dead by many, for eleven days. However, she was eventually found at a luxury hotel in Harrogate. She claimed then, and for the rest of the life, that she was suffering from amnesia and remembered nothing. Neither the press nor the police believed her. Steve Tiplady, as Geppetto, uses the objects of a carpenter’s workshop to tell the tale of the puppet that wants to be a real boy, and the puppet-maker who wants to be a real father. Pinocchio is carved on stage, brushes become a fox and the shadow of two saws transforms into a giant shark. An element of improvisation makes each performance unique to its audience. A rather different Christmas tree was welcomed in the town centre at the Turntable Gallery, dressed with “gross” baubles filled with a “deconstructed Christmas dinner,” bodily fluids, Marmite, haemorrhoids cream, and more, while the owners called out to the public for their own bauble donations, with “no limit” as to what could be inside them. Though for some the cheeky, controversial decorations may have come as a shock, the artists behind them hoped to give passing shoppers a giggle. It comes after the gallery threw away tradition by having a Christmas show in July, named ‘Winter Wonderlandfill’. watercooler 74 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY LincolnshireToday @lincstoday lincolnshiretoday.net Have we missed anything? Send your rib-ticklers to m.fisher@blmgroup.co.uk By the Odd requests Those who have worked in hospitality know that customers often come forth with odd requests. But how about being asked to teach someone’s wife how to make the perfect bed? That is just one of the peculiar queries received by Travelodge’s Lincoln staff. The teams at the chain’s Tentercroft Street and Thorpe on the Hill hotels recently shared the funniest requests from guests, with questions including “what is the best time to see the Imp” and “can you help me tie the corset on my Steampunk costume?” Employees have also been asked to create a large pizza pyramid, and to arrange for a private shopping preview of the Lincoln Christmas Market to impress someone’s girlfriend. Unfortunately some requests are just beyond their control. © stock.adobe.com/Kalim After thousands of Lincolnshire locals, as well as people across the country, identified their religion as Jedi Knight on census forms in 2011, the force is no longer being awakened, with Jedis close to extinction in the UK. Once so popular Jedi Knight had to be officially recognised with its own category in the Office for National Statistics data, recently released results from the 2021 census show the ‘religion’ has been wiped out, with England and Wales’ Jedi order falling from 176,000 a decade ago to below 1,600. The Star Wars-based religion originally appeared after a hugely successful email campaign, but it seems their lightsabers have sadly now been packed away. © stock.adobe.com/Gajus 74.qxp_Layout 1 12/12/2022 14:41 Page 1Patio Blinds Enjoy your garden all year round! tel: 01469 575804 Mobile: 07706468944 email: patioblinds@renco.co.uk www.patio-blinds.com /str/pvcoutdoorpatioblinds - 0.75mm Heavy Duty PVC - Great for enclosing outdoor spaces - - Protects from the wind & rain - Easy installation with fixings included - - Extensions, joiners & other accessories available - 10% off first orders!
