Glitter might have become environmental non grata, but the twinkly stuff can still be seen across the catwalk coating nails, lips, cheeks and hair. But the trend has also evolved with jewel and foil finishes on lips and around the eye adding that extra bit of sparkle. Trends tipped for the spring are focussing heavily around the eyes, with an emphasis on long lashes and big brows. If you thought big brows were going away anytime soon, you’ve got another think coming. While Instagram is still filled with crazy eyebrow trends – McDonald’s brow anyone? – there’s been a growing trend for “virgin” brows which, as you’d expect, are all about looking big, bushy, beautiful and real. Although this look depends on avoiding the tweezers, virgin-look brows can still be styled, so try a brow brush for maximum impact. We’re moving away from the nude lip look that’s dominated our beauty pages over the last few years with a growing popularity for just kissed lips. This is a lip stain that leaves you looking as though you’ve just enjoyed a good snog. Maybe you have, in any case, it’s an easy look to fake and will ensure you’re right on trend. But if that’s not for you, or you’re looking for something a little bolder, then we’ve got good news. Nineties red lips are back in vogue. To get the most out of this look, apply lippy with your finger and blot with tissue paper. If you still want to contour, go right ahead, but you can stay ahead of the crowd by embracing bronzer. Rather than applying beneath the cheekbones, try taking a page from top make-up artists and place bronzer along the cheekbone. This will result in a chiselled look that will leave you feeling as if you’ve just stepped out onto the catwalk. lookIt’s all about brows, lashes, lips, hair and freckles this season as Lincolnshire Today explores the latest beauty trends. Who’d have thought we’d live to see freckles become a make-up trend… but we have. In what some have dubbed the “Meghan Markle effect”, freckles have become a fashion statement. If you don’t have speckled skin yourself, don’t worry, there’s an even bigger trend for faux freckles that can be applied with an eyebrow definer or similar product. The key is to go a few shades darker than your natural skin tone, apply on top of foundation and avoid symmetry. There’s been an evolution on the hair front, with baby bangs becoming a more common sight at fashion shows and on the high street. This look is all about getting short choppy bangs that look, well, a bit like a baby’s. Paired with statement eyes and nude make-up, this can be a powerful look. Admittedly, it isn’t for everyone and depends on face shape and the strength of your cheekbones. Thankfully waves and gentle curves are back in and you can never go wrong with an updo or bob. Hair accessories have been growing in popularity over the last few years and now things are reaching fever pitch. Headbands have made a comeback and, no, we’re not talking about those awful plastic things you use to wear to school. These are audacious accessories, the more embellished the better.
