< Previous70 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY CARING kinder choice. Better to respect the agency and intelligence of someone you care for, otherwise it’s easy for resentments to fester, negatively impacting emotional health on both sides and the relationship as a whole. Talking to each other about mutual or individual struggles can ease the burden for both of you, and even reveal ways you can better look out for each other when you’re providing emotional support. Knowing a care recipient can help you in return, helping the relationship be less one-sided, will likely do wonders for their self-esteem. Even on the best of days, it’s all too easy to feel that you could be doing more. But keep in mind that the simple things go further than you might think. Once they’re out of bed and ready for the day, the main thing they’ll need you for is company. If you have the energy— another important factor to keep in mind and recharge when needed—take the time to keep each other’s spirits up by doing activities or hobbies together. Whatever makes you all happy, these regular reminders of what you share and enjoy in life further will support the sense of identity, independence and purpose of someone you care for. A short walk around a nearby nature spot, some gentle pilates or yoga, or getting meals ready together can all provide essential gentle exercise and happiness-boosting social time for both of you too. In the face of rising housing costs, dwindling pensions and uncertain political landscapes, families are growing closer, with many choosing to share their homes with elderly relatives. The benefits can be as everyday yet heartfelt as your little ones getting to grow up alongside their grandparents, rather than just visiting occasionally. Depending on any children’s needs and the elderly person’s ability, it can also be an environment that cuts out childcare costs, drop-offs and pick-ups, especially if parents work long or irregular hours. Living under the same roof with people who need your constant vigilance isn’t ever straightforward. It demands a level of empathy and understanding that’s difficult to keep up, no matter how big or tough your emotional stores are. Always remember that respite care is available as an option when your family feels burned out, or you and the care recipient need some space for any other reason. Families can’t be expected to be together and get along all the time. When nerves feel frayed, hiring a care professional to chaperone a daytrip, or simply take over for a short time, may be what makes all the difference. Whatever your future plans and current situation, and whoever you are, be sure there’s help out there for you. © stock.adobe.com/ RidoLINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 71 Winter Storage Only £75 include a Service for only £25 extra Scooters kept securely and charged weekly Service & Repairs We have an up to date fully equipped Service Centre to help with any breakdowns or repairs 207 Roman Bank, Skegness, Lincolnshire Tel: 01754 768006 Hire WheelchairWheelchair £5.00 per day £25.00 per week £25 refundable Deposit Scooter Scooter £15.00 per day £75.00 per week £50 refundable Deposit T FEBRUA£2.95 ARY2024 Fashion Fantastic D Valentin Foundat BritishHe ’ ti t Gainsbo Glorious D h WWWLINCWWW.LINC OLNSHIRETOOLNSHIRETO Lincolnshire Today’s gift subscription for only £27.55 with free delivery Call 01472 310301 or visit www.lincolnshiretoday.net/341 1st 3 £1 Looking for a great gift idea? People in Immingham have been complaining for years about a low-level droning sound they can hear in their homes, pushing for North East Lincolnshire Council to investigate the matter - but no answer or source of the noise has ever been found. With the noise getting worse, one town centre resident, Chloe Eccles, told the BBC she had considered moving away because of the noise: “As the years have gone on I’ve carried on hearing it and I thought I was crazy but other people can hear it too... especially in the last couple of months, it’s got really loud.” It has been suggested the hum could be from nearby factories, oil refineries, or wind farms. A council spokesperson said: “After initial contact with partners operating in the Immingham area, they’ve so far drawn a blank, although it could be coming from outside the borough. Any queries about noise must constitute a statutory nuisance for formal action to be instigated.” Mr Pink ready to bloom Refreshing tradition, ’Mr Pink’ has become the first male finalist for Spalding Flower Parade’s Flower Queen. Entering the competition for “a bit of fun,” the 62-year-old was “very pleasantly surprised” to be chosen as a finalist, according to The Telegraph. With the winner to be crowned by a panel of judges in March, nine people have been shortlisted for Flower Queen, a title which dates back to the 1950s and involves the queen riding a float decorated with flowers in the colourful parade. 2024 marks the second year of Spalding Flower Parade following a decade long hiatus caused by financial constraints. As the parade continues to solidify its new start, a new take on its royalty could well help it bloom. watercooler 74 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY LincolnshireToday @lincstoday lincolnshiretoday.net Have we missed anything? Send your rib-ticklers to m.fisher@blmgroup.co.uk By the New plan hatched for potty-mouthed parrots The county’s famous swearing parrots have hit the headlines once again, with Lincolnshire Wildlife Park revealing risky plans to curb their use of expletives. The wildlife park gained global attention in 2020 after five African greys - Billy, Tyson, Eric, Jade and Elsie - were removed from display for swearing at visitors, but a new strategy has now been put in place after their behaviour started to spread - with three more parrots repeating their bad language. Bosses aim to integrate them with more polite birds in a main enclosure, to dilute their behaviour, though it has been highlighted that this could backfire. Chief Executive, Steve Nichols, noted that the wildlife park could end up with 100 swearing parrots on their hands! © stock.adobe.com/fotografie4you.eu © stock.adobe.com/Basicmoments © stock.adobe.com/ sorapopPrinting|Copying|Graphic Design LOGOS | BRANDING | BUSINESS STATIONERY FLYERS & POSTERS | BROCHURES | NEWSLETTERS A0 COPYING & SCANNING | OS MAPPING CAD & PLAN PRINTING | PRINT FINISHING High Quality Print & Design in Lincolnshire N 01522 546118 E sales@lincolncopycentre.co.uk www.lincolncopycentre.co.uk 45 YEARS IN BUSINESS Byyourside then, nowand inthefuture Learn about our free Will Writing Service at ambucopter.org.uk/will Ourfirsthelicopter,1994 LNAACT REG CHARITY 1017501For more information, please visit ramsayhealth.co.uk/patients/referral-information or call 01733 829 105 Using your Private Medical Insurance at Boston West and Fitzwilliam Hospital Remember to tell your GP if you have Private Medical Insurance.
