With the weather slowly creeping toward warmth, there are more opportunities than ever to get out and that’s a relief given how cold the preceding months were. Is it just me or does easter seem to be losing steam to many? Those in religious communities still celebrate it for its actual religious message, but it feels like supermarkets and shops have phoned it in a little on the chocolate egg front. Perhaps that’s due to the cost of living or the price of chocolate, or maybe people have just wised up to how much of a rip-off some of those eggs are. I love chocolate myself, but I could buy five times the weight of some eggs in chocolate made by the same brand for the price of them, and it’d be less messy to eat as well. Still, there’s more to April than chocolate (despite how wonderful that sounds) and we’ll finally be driving home from work in actual daylight, and not just the last lingering traces of it. There are also more events taking place in the county around the easter holidays from school, and those with kids in need of something to do should check out our “what’s on” pages toward the end of the magazine. If you’re out in Lincolnshire, make sure to check out some of the things going on this month, as there’ll be plenty to see and do. Good reading, as always. Lincs fire service brings in new vehicles Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue have seven new Technical Rescue Vehicles – vans that carry specialist equipment for incidents like water rescue and animal rescue. The service relies on a whole host of vehicles and equipment which all play vital roles in operations. The previous rescue units had reached the end of their serviceable life and have been replaced with bigger and better vehicles that are also more efficient. Designed with input from firefighters and incident data, the new vehicles can even carry heavy rescue equipment used to shore up buildings to prevent building collapses. Cllr Lindsey Cawrey, executive councillor for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said: “When new equipment and vehicles are needed, we’re constantly looking for what best meets the needs of our fire crews and the communities they serve. “Investing in these TRVs means that a wider selection of equipment can be transported to incidents, and without the need for trailers, making them more efficient. They can also be used more flexibly for a much wider range of incidents, offering greater resilience.” Ramblers, trekkers and anyone who fancies a walk across the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds are invited to put on their hiking boots in aid of a local hospitals’ charity. United Lincolnshire Hospitals Charity has teamed up with Richard Fish Outdoor Adventures to bring you the Wolds Walk for 2024. This is the first time the charity has organised the walk which will take place on Saturday 20 April from 10am. It will cover an eight mile circuit starting at Tetford Hamilton Hall, taking in some of the best views of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Registration is £15 for adults and £10 for children which includes a charity T-shirt. Those taking part are also asked to raise a minimum of £20.24 in sponsorship. United Lincolnshire Hospitals Charity Fundraiser, Gary Burr, said: “We are asking for £20.24 to represent the fact the walk is taking place in 2024. “Every step you take will enable us to support United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust patients and staff with those extras that cannot be provided by the NHS.” Silver spade signals start of work on £9m Gainsborough cinema Gelder Group Chief Executive Officer Steve Gelder has used a silver spade to break the ground in a symbolic gesture, signalling the start of work on a £9m Savoy cinema in Gainsborough.
