Today, the heritage centre is a sanctuary for local people and visitors alike. From its cafe and artistic offering in the gallery and exhibitions to the heritage archive and weekly, monthly and quarterly events held to engage the wider community. Supported by a dedicated brigade of volunteers, at the heart of Caistor Arts & Heritage Centre is the Cafe at 28. If you visit later in the year, the walking tours led by kind volunteers at the Caistor Heritage Trust are an excellent way to get familiar with the local history. Running every Sunday from May to September, with extra Wednesday walks in July and August, they introduce you to just a few of Caistor’s fifty- six listed buildings, amongst them the Grammar School, as well as the Old Session’s House, nineteenth century Fire Station and Home Guard HQ. We are a family of three veterinary surgeons, Ali, Mihai, and Cristina, and one veterinary assistant/ manager - Cip. We have been in the UK for nearly 15 years, and two of us are even British citizens now. We thought it was the time for us to have our own business and work the way we love to. Our vets have been working with small animals for over a decade. Ali has worked as a small animal vet in Lincolnshire, South Yorkshire and even ventured to Cheshire and Wiltshire for a while. She loves her job and, although she has extensive experience in all fields of veterinary medicine, her main interests are dermatology, endocrinology, intensive care medicine and animal behaviour. Mihai has been working as a small animal vet in South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. He is a really enthusiastic vet, with a keen interest in surgery and, particularly, orthopaedics. Cristina has been faithful to Lincolnshire for most of her career, with the occasional locum position in other parts of the country. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary care. Cip has been working with farm animals mainly, and he is an experienced farm manager. He is currently helping our budding business with his knowledge on management and administration, while also being a veterinary assistant. We are really pleased we can, finally, offer the help we have dreamed of. Working for so many years in the veterinary field, and for so many practices between us, we saw an ever increasing need for veterinary home visits everywhere, so we thought we would, at least, meet that demand in North Lincolnshire area. What kinds of services do you offer, and for what types of animals? At the moment we provide veterinary mobile services exclusively for cats and dogs in North Lincolnshire area. We offer lots of procedures that can be carried out in everyone’s home. These include vaccinations, microchipping, nail clipping, flea and worm treatments, pet travel documents (Animal Health Certificates), consultations and treatments for ears and eyes problems, for skin problems, for mild vomiting and/ or diarrhoea, for lameness, for behavioural issues. We, also, provide blood pressure checks, basic ultrasound scans, blood sampling, blood tests, urine tests and sample collection for other laboratory tests. We deal with small wounds, cuts, grazes, abscesses, and minor lesions. And this is only a small fraction of the services we provide. Q&A The Shire Veterinary ServicesLINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 35 THE SHIRE VETERINARY SERVICES Q&A Because we want to help pets all along the way, we do offer end of life care as well. Within the next few months, we will have a brick-and-mortar practice, and then we will offer all the services a traditional veterinary practice does, including further investigations and surgery, while keeping our mobile side of the practice running as usual. What should someone do if their pet has a medical emergency? Our brick-and-mortar practice will be up and running within a few months and all the urgent and emergency cases, as well as any surgical or hospital admission cases, will be directed there at that time. In the meantime, in an emergency, our customers will be asked to contact our 24 hours emergency cover provider without any delay. Our emergencies are covered by the largest independent practice in Lincolnshire, who kindly agreed to help us with any surgical or hospital cases for the time being, as well. The details are easily found on our website, www.theshirevets.co.uk, or in our automated out of hours voice message. What benefits does a mobile team of veterinarians offer over traditional ones? We are glad you asked this, because this is the main reason we set up our mobile practice - to deliver a high standard veterinary care with minimal stress for pets and their owners. With our mobile service, the customers, practically, get to have a veterinary practice on their doorstep. This is particularly important for anxious pets, for pets who travel badly, for people unable to travel, and for non- drivers. Also, we think a mobile practice would be very useful for multipet households, where travelling would be difficult, and, why not, for people who just want to have the convenience of calling the vets out. There is no stress of travelling for the owners or the pets. Our professional team, composed of a veterinary surgeon and a veterinary assistant, can perform most of the procedures that can be done in a fixed veterinary practice, with the benefit of bringing the vet in the pet’s own environment, and not the other way around. This is another significant stress reducer. On top of that, our team will endeavour to make the visit as stress free as possible, both for the pets and their owners, by allowing more time for procedures than in a traditional veterinary practice. Our customers will receive a high quality, personalized and empathetic service in the comfort of their home. Even the medication, prescription food or supplements will be delivered straight to their house. Can you tell us how the process works, how someone should get in touch with you and arrange for a visit? It is very easy registering with us. The best way is to telephone us on 01652 250 225, between 9 am and 6 pm, Monday to Friday, and a member of our team will discuss all the details. Our website, www.theshirevets.co.uk, has a contact page with a fill in form to send us messages, too. Alternatively, we are reachable via email at reception@theshirevets.co.uk, via WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger. We recommend for visits to be booked at least one day in advance, when possible. All we can say is get in touch, even if it is just to get some more information. Our team is very knowledgeable and friendly and our services are truly amazing!
