Despite the many trials at play, resilience endures, driven by a shared commitment to excellence, staying ahead of the curve, and providing community wellbeing. Family-run contributions to the British economy are vast and far-reaching, spanning generations and sectors, and enriching the fabric of the society they serve. As powerful employers, they’re engines of economic growth within their communities, reducing unemployment rates and improving livelihoods. Their economic activities stimulate growth, generate tax revenues, and support local suppliers, thereby bolstering regional economies and contributing to overall prosperity. Many family businesses are deeply embedded in their communities, actively engaging in philanthropic initiatives and supporting essential services such as schools, hospitals, and local charities. Through their commitment to community welfare and cultural preservation, they also tend to prioritise sustainable improvement, driving forward-thinking solutions and promoting environmental protection. Holding steady to values like these disrupt industries that care less about individual, social and environmental needs. They invent and make space for new opportunities, and contribute to the economic verve of their surrounding area. The combinations of commercial success and social responsibility such businesses can offer create lasting positive impacts on communities and the environment. Reflecting on the prevailing legacy of family businesses is a complex, but essential reminder of their profound impact on the ongoing economic, cultural, and social landscape of a nation in flux. In their stories of struggle and success, we find echoes of our own aspirations and dreams, a testament to the survivor spirit of entrepreneurship, even in hardship, that defines the British identity. © stock.adobe.com/Halfpoint62 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY FAMILY BUSINESS 9 Clifton Street, Stonefield Park Industrial Estate, Lincoln, LN5 8LQ 01522 546118 sales@lincolncopycentre.co.uk Lincoln Print & Copy Centre are going into their 45th year in business in 2024 – it’s been interesting and challenging, but ultimately great fun working with so many people in the local area. Natureland Natureland has become known worldwide for its rescue of harbour and grey seal pups that have become stranded on the Lincolnshire coastline. Our grandparents founded Natureland back in 1965, and since then our family business has reared and returned over 1000 seals back to the wild. We are the 3rd generation of this family to be helping the baby seals that wash up along Lincolnshire’s coastline, and it gives us a great sense of pride having the opportunity to be the driving force in Natureland’s future! The Seal Hospital in Natureland now helps to rehabilitate between 50-70 seal pups every year, each of which costs us approximately £2000 from rescue to release (fish bills, vet fees, medication etc.). Natureland receives no outside funding so we rely on donations and admissions to fund our vital seal rescue work. We hope to see you at Natureland soon!LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 63 FAMILY BUSINESS In a world often driven by profit margins and corporate agendas, there’s something inherently special about doing business with a family-owned company. Tingdene Residential Parks stands as a shining example of such a business, where family values aren’t just part of the rhetoric but are experienced throughout their operations. Since its humble beginnings in 1996, Tingdene Residential Parks has grown into one of the UK’s most prestigious operators of residential parks, all while remaining true to the core principles it was founded upon. As a family-owned business, Tingdene understands the importance of building lasting relationships based on trust and mutual respect. Every resident who walks through their doors isn’t just a customer – they’re a member of the Tingdene family, welcomed with open arms and treated with the care and attention they deserve. It’s this personal touch that sets Tingdene Residential Parks apart from larger, faceless corporations, fostering a sense of belonging and community that is truly special. Their aim is to help their customers through what is a very important decision in their lives. There’s no hard sell, more a discussion as to what works best for you. “Tingdene have been superb to deal with, creating an extended patio for us and adding an additional driveway. They are very good people to deal with. “Our advice for anyone looking to move into a Park Home for their retirement would be to look very carefully at the Park owners themselves. Choosing the right Park owner is the biggest decision you need to make from the outset. We’re very happy we chose Tingdene. “I trust in them and their team. They are honest and straightforward to deal with and I have a good relationship with them.” Mr & Mrs C / Flaunden Park / Hertfordshire Beyond their commitment to their residents, Tingdene also places a strong emphasis on giving back to the communities they serve. The Gentlemen Distillers Ltd was formed in 2018 from a desire to make something we could be proud of and call our own. A year later we released our first product: Bandsman British Gin, in July of 2019, and have not looked back since. All of us at the Gentlemen Distillers Ltd are or have been musicians playing in brass bands and concert bands, or are strong supporters of community music initiatives. Most of our friends come from banding and it has certainly shaped our lives. Being part of a band is like having a second family: there is no room for one-upmanship or treading on other people’s toes, everyone has their own part to play and it is important that that part goes in just right. The same goes for gin making in that everything has to be balanced just right to create the perfect harmony of flavours. This is our fifth anniversary and we released four gins which make up The Bandsman Ensemble of gins, as well as two gins supporting charitable causes. Now we are offering our 3 perfect Gin Liqueurs. While there’s a growing recognition of the importance of our elders—familiarly referred to as the ‘silver demographic’—both in media and business circles, our society still overlooks the everyday, every weather support needs of our elderly. Families are often left to pick up the slack; however, this doesn’t need to be without support. Advancements in healthcare and an increasing quality of life are making later life easier for the individual and the people who care for them. People are now living longer than ever before, presenting an attractive market segment for various industries, including food, hospitality, and health. The shift towards tailoring products and services to meet the needs and preferences of over 55s is evident in several sectors. From specialised dietary supplements to age- friendly hospitality services, businesses are increasingly noticing the value of catering to the unique requirements of older adults, including options for flexible care. Assisted living facilities have been growing more popular in recent years, and for good reason. They ease minds with a supportive and sociable environment for individuals approaching retirement, or seeking a change in lifestyle during their twilight years, while also welcoming older folks who may have some medical care or nursing needs. Far from being mere repositories for elderly relatives, assisted living provides warmth and companionship in a safe and nurturing environment. With on-site nurses and care staff, residents receive personalised attention to address their specific needs while retaining a level of independence in their daily activities. The natural communities that grow become a Springtime support Even as we move from the frosty grip of winter to the gentle warmth of spring, our focus on the well-being of our elderly loved ones doesn’t take a back seat. LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 69 CARING © stock.adobe.com/Halfpoint home and social haven where residents can mingle, chat, have fun and connect with people their own age. As we celebrate the achievement of aging and the opportunities that come with it, assisted living can be a valuable support network for a fulfilling and restful retirement. By taking steps to explore available options and involve elderly loved ones in the decision-making process, families can ensure a smooth transition to new living arrangements and provide all the support they need for their wellbeing. Emotional support can be one of the biggest obstacles to working out visiting rotas and when family members are available, but the regular visits, warm environments, and inbuilt companionship of assisted living ensures responsibilities are shared by the many, helping prevent burnout for all carers. With its freedom to drop in and visit, opting for assisted living also means you’re welcome to have family daytrips when the sun shines, no strings attached to potential care home limits or schedules. The availability of medical support can also share out the small but potentially stressful series of tasks that comes with caring for the elderly in warmer weather. When talking springtime care for the elderly, it’s always important to make sure you’re covered for sun protection. Elderly people are often more vulnerable to the sun’s rays due to changes in skin composition and decreased ability to regulate body temperature. To prevent damage or harm before it can happen, caregivers should take proactive measures to ensure appropriate sun protection for their loved ones. In our reliably unpredictable British climate, ensuring the comfort, safety, and warmth of our elderly needs constant 70 ÁNext >
