Unless you like yellow grass – in which case it’s great. We’re all about getting out in the warmer days, visiting towns and villages, dining out, and experiencing everything Lincolnshire has to offer, but the hotter days are worth keeping in mind. It may not be “fun” to talk about, but make sure everyone brings ample hydration and sunscreen, and that clothing is light and airy. Also keep in mind pets, especially dogs, because they can struggle to regulate heat the same way we can, and days like these can make even a normal walk dangerous. Consider doing shorter walks, and more of them if you want, or at the very least bring along a bottle of cool water for them to drink from partway through. And while I’m giving out random tips for summer (all of which I’m using), remember that if you’re struggling to sleep because of the heat, a good way to lower your body temperature quickly is to run your wrists under the tap as you brush your teeth. Your wrists are very sensitive to temperature changes, and this can leave you feeling cool enough to sleep under the covers. We’d suggest air conditioning, but with the energy prices at the moment that just feels irresponsible. Have fun and enjoy your summer. This includes play areas at Central Park, Woodville Road, St John’s and Garfit’s Lane. Woodville Road’s funding will mean the pirate ship is replaced after it was destroyed by a fire back in September 2022. The improvements to Central Park will include new surfaced areas, picnic benches and tables, a large horse springer, new water lilies with four way springers and a little mermaid, ugly duckling and castle playground framed unit. Meanwhile, a new large three-piece pirate ship complete with climbing net will be installed at St John’s Boston. The strong themed ship inspires dramatic play, and the variation of climbing, gliding and sliding attracts play on end, year after year. The unit forms a whole playground with its diverse play activities. At Garfit’s Lane two concrete table tennis tables with tarmac bases will be introduced. These works are to be funded by Boston Town Area Committee (BTAC), Boston Borough Council, Boston Big Local and local charity Local Hope. Two Lincolnshire tourism destinations won bronze awards at the Visit England Tourism Excellence Awards 2023 staged at the Warner Bros Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter. The International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln won bronze in the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year category, while Charlotte and Steven Bennett from Healing Manor Hotel won bronze in the Resilience and Innovation category. The IBCC was shortlisted alongside Blenheim Palace and the Warner Bros Studio and came away with a bronze, so to achieve third place overall was a significant achievement. “To have achieved this status after only five years and to be amongst these giants of the tourism industry is a huge nod to the efforts, passion and dedication of our team of staff and volunteers,” said Nicky Van Der Drift, who is CEO of the International Bomber Command Centre and chair of the Greater Lincolnshire LEP’s Visitor Economy Board. Asked why he wanted to compete in the race Steve said: “You only get one life and if you live it and truly test yourself one life should be enough. Being my 40th Birthday year, I wanted to find a race that would test myself to the limit.” Steve’s achievement has raised an incredible £4,000 which he is splitting between ‘SOBS’ Charity and Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance (LNAA). The Marathon des Sables is the stuff of legends – a truly gruelling multi- stage adventure in one of the world’s most inhospitable environments, the Sahara Desert. Completed in six days, running over 250km across endless sand dunes, rocky jebels and white-hot salt plains, carrying sleeping bag, 7 days-worth of food and whatever else is needed to survive on your back, it is an experience like no other in the world. Over 280 jobs on the line as closure of Young’s Seafood factory proposed Over 280 jobs are on the line following the proposed closure of a Young’s Seafood factory in Grimsby. Plans have been unveiled to halt production at the site on Marsden Road, with an October date mooted, and move what remains to another Grimsby factory and a Scottish site. Owner of Young’s, Sofina Foods Europe, said the factory was “no longer financially sustainable,” according to BBC reports, with a spokesperson saying 285 roles could be lost. The company said the decision does not reflect on the teams who work there, noting that “they are a credit to the company.” Staff and unions are set to be consulted before a formal decision on the closure. Sofina said some new roles would be created at a site on Grimsby’s Humberstone Road and in Scotland at Fraserburgh. latest news © stock.adobe.com/afishman64 Revamped building brings flats to relieve homeless pressure Three single-bed units have come on stream in Grantham for South Kesteven District Council to accommodate the most vulnerable homeless individuals.
