Guinot was initially founded in 1972 by Dr Jean-Daniel Mondin, the son of a plastic surgeon who had a vision to revolutionise and redefine the concept of ‘cosmetics’ through his own expert medical roots. Blending laboratory pharmaceuticals with skin care concepts the vision for an alternative to aesthetic medicine was born and the groundbreaking Hydraderm technology became a main player on the skin care stage. As a globally recognised, science backed and salon professional brand - you can have confidence that investment in Guinot Mary-Cohr services will leave your skin radiant and exuberayting youth. The Hydradermie technology unlocks the potential to make changes in the lower layers of skin and target proteins essential to maintaining youthful skin such as collagen and elastin, guaranteeing this is much more than a superficial skin treatment. How does Hydraderm work? As the first of its kind introduced into the beauty industry, the Hydraderm technology has developed from its original makeup to now offer a gentle double ionisation process which allows the skin to be more receptive - resulting in better absorption of skin care products. When the skin is more receptive, faster and more powerful outcomes can be achieved resulting in unrivalled radiance to the face. Lifting of the facial contours is another achievable benefit of the Hydraderm using a powerful yet comfortable micro current technology. The aim initially is to drain, relieve muscle tension and improve micro circulation. From there, the machine stimulates muscle tone by applying a direct current to specific muscles and muscle groups. The machine’s carefully designed electrodes allow for specific focus on areas which may be of high concern such as the eyes, mouth, jowls and neck as well as offering a generalised full face treatment. Realistic results The overall goal when using the Hydraderm is to reignite a natural looking youth to the skin by maintaining and improving the skin on both the surface and lower layers. Giving long term results that will leave you feeling beautiful without the need for invasive and sometimes more obvious treatment options. Additional to this, due to scientific development since its original debut, the Hydraderm is versatile and can be used on all skin types to achieve different outcomes some of which we will explore below: * Pre and post sun exposure treatments are advised throughout the warm summer months and for sunshine holidays. Through research and development we Rejuvenating and lifting This month, we speak to Skin Couture, to find out more about Guinot Mary-Cohr, a treatment designed to target the skin at a cellular level to achieve anti-aging, rejuvenation and lifting. LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 37 HAIR AND BEAUTY understand now more than ever that the sun and exposure to UVA and UVB rays are a leading cause of both sun damage and skin ageing. Specifically selected serum gels used within the Hydradermie treatment can help to prepare your skin for sun exposure and then aid healing and rejuvenation of the skin upon your return. * Soothing irritation can be an ongoing battle for some skin. Your Guinot skin Doctor can select serum gels to target this irritation, helping you to understand the root cause of the irritation and creating a long term treatment plan to keep the skin soothed and calm. * Rehydration isn’t always a case of ‘drink more water’. Whilst it’s important to ensure your body remains hydrated, sometimes the skin (as the body’s outer most organ) could use a little additional help. Many factors both internal and external/environmental can cause the skin to lack hydration and applying rehydrating serum gels during a hydradermie session can give your skin that instant drink it requires! * Purifying skin prone to outbreaks and excessive oiliness can often seem problematic. This leads to people with these skin issues often giving up or assuming there is little they can do to gain control of a problematic skin. Many opt straight for a medicated route which can often be harsh on not only the skin but also to the body and mind. Treating the skin with Hydraderm to achieve purity can be a gentler and an overall more relaxing experience. You will learn to understand your skin throughout your journey with your Guinot skin Doctor and be able to make positive change for long term, happier skin. What to expect Each Guinot service is prescriptive and professional so be prepared to undergo a consultation in the privacy of your treatment room with your Guinot skin Doctor. This will assess treatment suitability, give insight into your skin care goals and aid the creation of an ongoing treatment plan, including a prescription for any recommended home care, which will help boost and maintain your results. The treatment procedure will be explained before treatment commences and you will have an opportunity to ask any questions on the service. When the treatment begins during the initial stages your skin will undergo an in- depth analysis to identify areas of concern and ensure the correct treatment has been selected. From here you can rest assured you are in the safe hands of your skin Doctor and make the most of the tranquil environment that surrounds you. Upon completion of your treatment you will be guided with advice bespoke to you, your lifestyle and your skin condition. This will help you obtain the best from your treatment and gain the best long term results, leaving you able to float out of the salon until your next scheduled session.38 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY HEALTH & FITNESS A healthy microbiome A healthy microbiome There are no shortage of diet fads online and on TV but the 30-plant challenge isn’t about losing weight (though that may happen) but about cultivating your gut.LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 39 HEALTH & FITNESS © stock.adobe.com/FomaA W e all know we should aim for five portions of fruit or vegetables a day, wherein a portion is considered 80g or 2.8oz. This is about getting necessary levels of important vitamins and nutrients, used all over the body, but a new study is suggesting we should aim for as many as 30 plants a week - and that means 30 different plants a week. The reason for this all boils down to bacteria and gut health. We’ve all likely heard of “healthy bacteria” and the “microbiome” of our stomach. All food comes with bacteria that our bodies break down for nutrients and absorb, with the waste going where waste does. The 30-plant challenge isn’t about getting nutrients, however. It will do that as part and parcel of eating more plants, but the main focus is on diversity of microbes. Science shows that 70% of the immune system resides in the gut, and that this is the primary line of defence against illness - which is why stomach pain is so ubiquitous a symptom for many illnesses. If you are only eating a small variety of plants in a week, say that you are reaching your five-a-day by eating bananas, apples, lettuce, broccoli and carrots each day, then you will technically be reaching the amount of nutrients you need to be healthy, but your gut will be operating on a very narrow range of bacterial microbes. Every food item has different bacteria in it, up to and including there being different bacteria in red apples vs green apples (which is what causes the change in colour). When you eat more varied plants, your gut has to work to break down a lot more different products, which makes it better at doing so. This boosts your immune system, but it also boosts hormone levels and inflammation regulation as well. Think of it as a way of exercising your gut and immune system, so that it’s well-trained in dealing with different bacteria and thus better able to react in a time of crisis. So, how hard is eating 30 plants a week? It may sound like an easy task for vegans and vegetarians, but even a lot of them may not be reaching this goal due to the convenience or preferring repeats of the same favourite meal. The goal is to have 30 different plant-based foods over the course of a week, which includes foods like wholegrain bread, rice, etc, and also wholewheat. It also includes spices, though they only count as 1/4 of a “plant point” for reaching the total. They can still add up quickly if you use different spices in a meal, so keep track of them. You may be surprised by an extra 1-2 points coming from spices. The 30 plant challenge doesn’t require giving up meat, either. In fact, it’s perfectly viable to run with high-protein diets as it makes no restrictions on what you can eat, only asking that you squeeze in more plant- based foods around it. In fact, coffee and dark chocolate can count as plant points due to what they’re made from, but only if they haven’t been processed too much, as ultra- processed foods have usually been stripped of many of their health benefits by the manufacturing process. Similarly, steak cooked with spices and rubs and served with asparagus and carrots can be anywhere from 2-3 plant points depending on how many spices are used in the rub. What counts as a plant, then? Well, fruits and vegetables are obvious but legumes and lentils also count, along with wholegrains and wholewheat foods, nuts and seeds, herbs and spices and even tofu. If it’s made from a plant and it hasn’t been processed too deeply, then it’ll count as a plant point, meaning that adding some to your diet can be as simple as sprinkling some nuts over your meal in the evening. Just remember to use a different nut or seed each night to score 7 quick points. Don’t use almonds for them all, however, as having almonds 7 times a week will still only score you 1 point. The goal isn’t to eat more 40 ÁNext >
