In answer to the ‘pingdemic’ that has plagued businesses and households for months, those that have received both doses of their COVID vaccine will no longer need to self-isolate if they are pinged. As we approach the festive period (less than four months!) doubtless you’ll want to make a start on your Christmas shopping, and what better place to do that than Lincolnshire. But it isn’t Christmas yet! After a frankly disappointingly dreary August, we may just be in store for an Indian summer. With the growing threat of COVID variants, this month may just be the last chance to enjoy all the county has to offer before restrictions begin to return. If you’re stuck for ideas and inspirations of how best to spend your time, don’t worry – our September issue is jammed packed with features to get you excited. Our crafting feature, in particular, has all the tips and tricks you need to get started with a new hobby. If you’re looking for a new favourite town, we take a deep dive into Brigg and Barton. Elsewhere, we shine a light on the county’s invaluable family businesses. But don’t just take my word for it, turn the page and see for yourself. Captain’s arrival in late July meant only a short separation until being reunited with fellow police horse, Steele in early August. Bransby Horses’ External Welfare Manager, Rachel Jenkinson, travelled to Manchester to meet the pair before transportation and got to speak to their handlers who were very sorry to see them go. Captain and Steele will live on our Walklands Yard where they will spend their retirement amongst other rescued equines in sanctuary care. The deal was agreed between The Ministry of Steampunk, Lincolnshire County Council, the City of Lincoln Council and Lincoln Business Improvement Group. The festival will take place over the August Bank Holiday and centres around Lincoln Castle and the Bailgate area of the City. Having grown over the last decade, it now attracts in the region of 100,000 visitors to the city and is Lincoln’s second busiest event weekend after the Christmas Market. John Naylor of the Ministry of Steampunk said “Lincoln has provided a spectacular backdrop for the steampunk community’s creativity since 2009 so we are delighted to be able to return. “We are supremely grateful for the support and encouragement of Lincolnshire County Council, Lincoln City council and Lincoln BIG together with Lincoln Cathedral and our other local partners.” Popular Scunthorpe walking and cycling route to receive £500,000 cash boost Scunthorpe Ridgeway will be extended from Burringham Road to Hammerton Road in Scunthorpe helping to connect more people to employment, education, leisure and other cycling facilities thanks to a £500,000 investment from the Government via Sustrans. Sustrans has provided the grant funding, which is being match funded by North Lincolnshire Council, to construct the one-kilometre extension. The route – part of the National Cycle Network – currently runs from Burringham Road to Normanby Enterprise Park, connecting the north and south of Scunthorpe. The new path will be 3.5 metres wide offering plenty of space for both cyclists and walkers, and will have lights along the route to make it accessible at all times. Construction is due to start in the autumn and is expected to be finished in March 2022. The majority of the work is off-road, therefore disruption will be kept to a minimum. Lincolnshire councils agree ground-breaking new partnership Boston Borough, East Lindsey and South Holland District Councils have formally signed off on plans to create an ambitious new partnership – the largest such partnership of councils in the country. After being approved in principle by the three authorities last month, each council had been considering the detailed business case for the formation of the South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership over the last week with final agreement coming from Boston Borough Council at their meeting last night (2 August). Whilst each council will continue to be politically independent and be accountable to the communities they serve, the three councils will work collectively, supported by a shared management team and workforce, to deliver on their aspirations for their communities and to tackle common challenges. The total population of the three council areas is 304,000, covering a geography of 1,112 square miles. © Shutterstock/pikcha 06-08.qxp_Layout 1 19/08/2021 09:23 Page 3ORDER FORM Yes, I would like to subscribe to Lincolnshire Today magazine for the next 12 months, with the first 3 issues only being £1.
