North Lincolnshire will honour the fallen on this years’ Remembrance Sunday on 12 November, starting with a military parade.
This year, the parade will assemble outside The Baths Hall, Doncaster Road, Scunthorpe, at 10.10am and step off at 10.25am.
Those wishing to take part can meet at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe for tea and coffee at 9.30am or gather outside The Baths Hall from 10am.
The parade, with serving personnel, veterans military organisations and uniformed groups, taking part, will make its way down Doncaster Road to the Cenotaph outside North Lincolnshire Museum, Oswald Road. The service will start at 10.45am.
There will be the Act of Remembrance and a two-minute silence at 11am, followed by wreath laying at the Cenotaph.
The parade will march back to The Baths Hall, via Vicarage Gardens, following the wreath laying.
A minibus has been made available for those members of the Armed Forces community who are unable to parade back to The Baths Hall.
The Baths Hall will open its doors to those who wish to meet for refreshments following the service.
North Lincolnshire Council has worked with members of the Royal British Legion Scunthorpe Branch and 146 Divisional Support Company REME to prepare this years’ Remembrance Sunday parade and service.
Free parking is available in town centre car parks. Road closures will be in place on Doncaster Road, Oswald Road, Vicarage Gardens and Exeter Road on the day from 10am to 12pm.
Cllr Janet Longcake, Mayor of North Lincolnshire, will lay a wreath on the Cenotaph on behalf of North Lincolnshire.
Cllr Longcake said: “I feel privileged to be taking part in the annual Remembrance Day Parade and play a small part in the massive thanks we owe our armed forces and veterans, past and present. I look forward to seeing communities coming together to pay tribute.”
Cllr Elaine Marper, the Armed Forces champion for North Lincolnshire Council, said: “The armed forces have selflessly protected us for many, many years and it is only right that we commemorate them and thank them for all they have done and still do.
“The council is proud of its commitment to supporting members of the military, veterans, and their families under the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant.
“We will continue to support them and honour their sacrifice.”
