  • Bring money for a deposit. Many suppliers offer a discount for the show day only – don’t miss securing a service because you couldn’t give a deposit
  • Bring swatches of material or ribbon in your chosen colour scheme to help when talking to exhibitors (for example florists could recommend certain flowers in season the date of your wedding which will match your chosen colours)
  • Talk to as many suppliers as you can – many will have gifts for every couple…and most of all – enjoy your day!

Lift off for £15.4m air and space training facility in Newark
A new state-of-the-art airspace training facility for Newark might’ve seemed like a pipe dream to many, especially given the current economic turmoil of late, but that dream has become a reality with construction starting this week on the £15.4 million project.
Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Visitors, Councillor Rhona Holloway, from Newark and Sherwood District Council and Newark Town Board Co-Chair Tom Cartledge joined ASI colleagues on-site for the official turf-cutting ceremony this afternoon. Councillor Rhona Holloway, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Visitors at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “Today marks the start of the exciting construction of a new Air and Space Institute located in Newark. “The facility will train the next generation of pilots, engineers and aviation ground crew – providing young people who dream of flying a plane or working in the aviation or space industries the opportunity to have that dream turned into reality. “To reach this point has involved a huge amount of work and I’d like to pay tribute to Lincoln College Group, Newark Town Board and colleagues within Newark and Sherwood District Council.” Being built adjacent to the Newark and Sherwood District Council offices on the former Cattle Market site, the ASI was one of a number of priority projects identified as part of Newark’s Town Investment Plan, which was developed by the Newark Town Board to regenerate the town centre, boost business and improve infrastructure. As part of the proposals, £10.6 is being contributed towards the project from the Towns Fund. Lincoln College Director of ASI and Strategic Growth, Tom Marsden, said: “This new HQ for the Air and Space Institute will be an iconic landmark for Newark as people enter the town. It’s also hugely exciting for our current and future students, who’ll be training to be pilots and engineers in the civil and military aviation and space industries. “This project represents the vision, drive and tenacity of our partners; the District Council, Newark Town Board, STEM architects, our main contractor G F Tomlinson and our aviation industry partners. “ASI is putting Newark on the map in terms of education and training. Our students are already taking flying lessons and training on real aircraft. This new facility will be truly world-class and attract students from all over the UK. This brings investment, new resources and a huge boost to existing and emerging businesses in Newark. “We’re already training the pilots and aircraft engineers of the future and our Space Engineering programmes for school-leavers start in September. All of our programmes go from level 2 and 3 right up to higher national diplomas and degree-level and we will be in a position to make an exciting announcement about a new local university partner in the next few weeks.” Chris Flint, Managing Director at G F Tomlinson said: “We were delighted to be appointed as the main contractor on this development. “The project will provide students at the Lincoln College Group with a state-of-the-art facility and enable the ASI to offer first-class training at a brand-new campus in the heart of Newark. “We are extremely pleased to have secured this project under the Pagabo National Framework for Major Construction Works. Through our early contractor involvement and close collaboration with the Client team, we look forward to turning Lincoln College Group’s vision into a reality by providing a world-class training facility for young people throughout the region.”

Hackers attempted to hijack the official Christmas Market page on Facebook this week but the Lincoln City Council’s cyber team succeeded in outsmarting them.
Although the Facebook site was affected for a short period of time, during which the the hacker managed to change the page name to “Data Centre – Business Pages User” and was able to remove certain posts, the Council’s quick action soon had control of the page once again and managed to keep any confusion to a minimum.
Unruffled by the potential cyber threat, a post afterwards from the council the council read ” Well, that was an interesting few days! As you may or may not be aware, the Grinch stole our Facebook page for a short period of time.
“Don’t worry, we’ll be ensuring word gets back to Santa, and he will be off the nice list for some time!

Prolific Lincoln thief to serve substantial jail sentence and 3 year Criminal Behaviour Order
A prolific Lincoln shop thief has been jailed for 40 weeks following proactive work by the Lincoln Neighbourhood Policing Teams. Officers carried out an arrest on Matthew Taylor, 32, of Goldsmith Walk, Lincoln, last week. He was charged with two shop thefts, one count of common assault, and failing to appear in court. The thefts took place at Waitrose in Lincoln and a Co-Op store between 26th September and 22nd October, and meat and other items were stolen. The assault took place on 20th October at a Co-Op store. At court he was convicted of those two thefts and a further four shop thefts which were heard at the same time, as well as the assault charge and for failing to appear. He has now been given a 40 week custody sentence for each theft charge, to run concurrently, a 20 week sentence for the common assault charge to also run concurrently, and a one week concurrent sentence for failing to appear. The convictions were secured as a result of NPT officers working closely with the anti-social behaviour team, integrated offender management team, as well as members of the community to build a case against him. He has also been given a three year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) which will remain in place after his sentence is completed. The CBO has conditions that he must not enter any retail premises within the City of Lincoln, with the exception of Tesco and Tesco Pharmacy in Wragby Road. He must also alert staff of his presence before entering the store. A CBO is an order designed to tackle the most serious and persistent anti-social individuals where their behaviour has brought them before a criminal court. If it’s breached, this is a criminal offence and custodial sentence can be enforced to deal with the individual.

More misery for households as BoE announce biggest rate hike in decades and economists predict longest recession on record
The Bank of England has announced a rise in interest rates from 0.75% to 3% – the biggest interest rate increase since 1989. The rise follows economic turmoil caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and various faux pas by Liz Truss’s cabinet. Economists are now forecasting that, as a result, the UK will be plunged into one of the longest recessions on record. Seven members of the MPC (Andrew Bailey, Ben Broadbent, Jon Cunliffe, Jonathan Haskel, Catherine L Mann, Huw Pill and Dave Ramsden) voted in favour of the rise. Two members voted against the proposition. Swati Dhingra preferred to increase Bank Rate by 0.5 percentage points, to 2.75%, and Silvana Tenreyro preferred to increase Bank Rate by 0.25 percentage points, to 2.5%. The Bank of England’s governor Andrew Bailey insisted: “If we don’t take action to bring inflation down, it gets worse,”

He added: “The UK’s standing has been damaged by the government’s mini-budget”

The MPC have also stated that, if the outlook suggests more persistent inflationary pressures, it will respond forcefully, as necessary.

Chestnut Homes has recruited a new furry member to its Market Rasen team in celebration of the recent launch of its Chantrey Park development. Loveable Labrador Retriever, Ted, has been crowned as the winner of the Chestnut Homes Furry Mascot competition, as chosen by the public. The competition saw hundreds of Lincolnshire locals share pictures and videos of their dogs using the #ChantreyParkMascot hashtag. The four finalists; Gladys, Winston, Ted and Coco, were then put to public vote on the Chestnut Homes social media pages. Winner Ted will be gifted a hamper full of special dog treats and will become a very important member of the Chestnut Homes team, offering a dog’s eye view of the new Chantrey Park development. Ted, who loves long walks in the countryside, belly rubs and playing with his toys, will lend his paw to a number of Chestnut Homes tasks over the coming weeks. Stamford man jailed for 19 sex offences
A Stamford man has been jailed for eight years in relation to 19 sex offences. Dudley White, aged 52, was charged with the offences after the victim made disclosures to police in 2021. He was charged with 10 counts of production of indecent images of a child under 16, three counts of making indecent images of a child, four counts of assaulting a child under 16 by touching, and two counts of inciting a child under 16 in non-penetrative sexual activity. Images included eight Category A which is the most serious, nine category B and 38 C were located on his electronic devices, including his phone. The offences were committed while White was living in the Stamford area. White appeared at Lincoln Crown Court today [2nd November] for sentence. He was given eight years in jail, a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order, a lifetime restraining order from the victims and placed on the sex offenders register for life. Detective Constable Helen Morris from the Protecting Vulnerable People department said: “I welcome the prison sentence and the ongoing protective measures that have been put in place. This offending was against the most vulnerable in society and I hope with the conclusion of the court case, those involved can find some closure.” If you have been a victim, remember that what has happened is not your fault. Morrisons have revealed plans to close 132 unprofitable McColl’s stores across the country just a short time after receiving the green light from competition regulators on the multi million buyout of the troubled convenience store group. The decision is expected to affect around six Lincolnshire McColl stores. The Bradford based supermarket giant acquired the troubled chain for £190 million back in May, fending off a rival offer at that time from Asda. Competition regulators gave the green light for the takeover last week following which Morrisons unveiled their closure plans. Morrisons said, that whist 132 stores have no realistic prospect of achieving a breakeven position, it does expect some McColl’s stores to return to profitability as part of its turnaround plans. The majority of the closures are due to take place this year, and 55 of the stores that include a Post Office counter will close in the coming year. Morrisons said every affected worker would be offered alternative employment at a nearby McColl’s store, Morrisons store, logistics operation or foodmaking centre. Joseph Sutton, Morrisons convenience, online and wholesale director, said: “We have a great deal of work to do but there’s no question that McColl’s is a business with strong potential. “I’m confident that the combination of McColl’s conveniently located stores and great colleagues together with Morrisons scale, brand, systems and fresh food expertise will lead to a transformation of the business. “We very much regret the proposed closure of 132 loss-making stores but it is, very sadly, an important step towards the regeneration of the business. “I am confident that McColl’s can, in the Morrisons family, once again become a growing, thriving and vibrant convenience business serving local communities across the UK.” Last month, the UK competition regulator paved the way for the clearance of Morrisons £190m rescue deal on the condition it sold 28 McColl’s stores in 35 areas where the two retailers compete. All 16,000 McColl’s staff were transferred to Morrisons as part of the deal.

Tricks and treats for all ages were celebrated at Caistor Fire Station, in a specially themed Halloween evening, aptly entitled ‘Come if you dare station scare’ .
Hundreds of visitors braved the weather to attend the event, where they discovered live actors throughout the station to add to the drama. Visitors seemed surprised and delighted with the amount of effort put into the event and clearly no stone was left unturned as could be seen from the eight foot yeti , the skeletal remains of a firefighter -still suited and booted, a chainsaw wielding Freddy Krueger, a nightmarish nun and creepy clown to name but a few (or should we say phew). The fire station itself was converted into a ghost train type adventure land with cleverly constructed tunnels, concealing more goulish goings on accompanied by eery soundtracks adding to the drama. Thanks to the generosity of guests some £380 was raised on the evening  for The Fire Fighters Charity with further pledges been made since via social media.
