U nifying the beauty of an old country home with its look and feel, with the benefits of a new build, this month’s featured house exudes luxury living. Set in the village of Scothern, to the North of Lincoln, the executive, four bedroom, detached property, built by Trulove in 2020, offers the ideal balance between modernity and a homey, warm aura, as well as an intricately designed garden prime for entertaining. Tim and Fran have lived at the house on Saint Germains Way for almost three years, moving as lockdown came into force in 2020. The couple were originally drawn to the “absolutely superb” village and the high quality, style, and layout of 12 Á 10-15.qxp_Layout 1 23/01/2023 11:45 Page 2the abode, noting that “while it is a new build it has been sympathetically constructed in terms of keeping with the village style.” They also highlighted their love for the vaulted ceilings, wood burner and “glorious garden opening on to fields.” Tim added, however, that it was the kitchen that completely sold them on the home. Taking a tour of the property, the front door guides you into the entrance hall, where an exquisite feature ceiling chandelier dangles overhead, providing a magnificent welcome. The space also marks the start of the Amtico flooring throughout the ground floor, where there is zoned underfloor heating, and hosts stairs rising to the first floor and a bespoke built in understairs storage cupboard. To the right one will find a WC, while straight ahead is the kitchen/dining room and to the left, the living room. Tim pinpoints the kitchen as his favourite room in the home, with it presenting a perfect space for those who love to cook and entertain, while also looking out over the garden and leading into a garden room with delightful, exposed beadwork and French doors offering access to an alfresco dining area. He said: “We are avid cooks, and the house provides so many wonderful appliances that we’ve never had before, including wizardry Wi-Fi ovens. The fact that it is a Krantz kitchen, which are just absolutely amazing, has been ideal for us too. We had seen them when living in Scotland and had wanted to install one in our cottage up there, but when we moved down here we couldn’t believe our luck that Krantz was in Lincoln and 12 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY HOMES 10-15.qxp_Layout 1 23/01/2023 11:45 Page 3they were used to do the kitchen in this home.” The bespoke Krantz kitchen comprises of quartz window sills and work surfaces, a range of wall and base units, and a clever island unit with a unique circle piece, creating a more inventive island as opposed to the traditional box often seen and presenting a defined, little dining area or spot for sitting and socialising when cooking away. Appliances in the kitchen include an integrated dishwasher, NEFF induction hob, NEFF double oven with microwave, Miele integrated freezer, Miele integrated fridge, and stainless steel double sink with mixer taps. An open space, the kitchen flows into a dining area, while a utility connects through a door, hosting a bespoke built in Krantz larder unit, range of wall and base units, stainless steel sink and drainer with work surfaces over, cupboard housing a hot water cylinder, water softener and manifold for under floor heating, and space and plumbing for a washing machine. The living room meanwhile can be accessed from both the kitchen and entrance hall, featuring a cosy fireplace with Charnwood log burner, exposed brick chimney, oak beam, and slate tiled hearth. “With the fire lit, the living room has been particularly lovely in these recent months,” Tim said. Travelling upstairs, there are four carpeted bedrooms to be discovered, with the master enjoying a walk-in wardrobe and en-suite with tiled flooring, a feature tiled wall adding extra visual LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 13 HOMES 14 Á 10-15.qxp_Layout 1 23/01/2023 11:45 Page 4intrigue to the room, a wall mounted heated towel rail, low level WC, walk in shower cubicle with mains shower and recessed shelving, and a wall mounted sink in a vanity unit. Another of the bedrooms also has its own en-suite, while a family bathroom serves the other bedrooms. Fully tiled it holds a walk in shower with mains shower, low level WC, wall mounted sink in a vanity unit, wall mounted heated towel rail, bath, and a feature tiled wall. Moving outside, the property is approached via a block paved driveway leading to a double garage and providing ample off road parking. To the rear of the home the South Westerly facing garden makes the abode an even more special find and is often visited by pheasants, partridges, kestrels, owls, buzzards, and hedgehogs. Designed by Nikki Applewhite, it encompasses mature planted beds, alfresco patio dining areas, and outdoor kitchen ideal for entertaining, along with a feature Metal pergola with sliding shades and LED lighting, vegetable plot with an Alton Greenhouse and Crane National Heritage Garden shed with power. Tim and Fran have spared no expense on the outdoor space: “Looking out on to fields, it is such a huge garden for a new build and catches the sun wonderfully. Rolling straight on to a picket fence the developer put in, we’ve also added a hawthorn hedge so it’s in keeping with the scenery and what they call the borrowed landscape behind us. We had the garden purposely designed, to create entertaining areas, a zone for sunsets, an outdoor kitchen space for barbecues and an outside dining space, a vegetable plot, and beautiful Alton Cedar greenhouse for the kitchen garden.” Though the couple have loved their time at the home, they are now selling as part of their plans for retirement. The property is now on the market with Mount & Minster with a guide price of £575,000. 14 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY HOMES 10-15.qxp_Layout 1 23/01/2023 11:45 Page 5LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 15 A S LOCAL AS IT GETS! Then we’d love to meet you, please call in for a cup of tea and a chat. The Little Red Gallery are feeling ‘Love’ with a fantastic range of pieces and perfect gift ideas. B orn in London in 1986, Ben Jeffrey’s interest in art was kindled when his grandfather introduced him to the work of John Varlet, the renowned 18th Century watercolour artist. In secondary school, Ben realised his passion as a direction for his career, and he and his friends would place bets on who could draw the best portrait. Continuing to study art to degree level, Ben received guidance and advice throughout the years but also developed his style and technique alone. Always wanting to paint with oils and create colourful and detailed paintings, this wasn’t always received well by tutors, but Ben’s classmates were often impressed. “I always have a basic composition in mind but I let the brush come up with the shapes, and I choose the colour almost on the spot,” says Ben. His diverse work ranges from portraits to landscapes, in both pencil and oils, and his love of vivid and bright colours creates a unique and modern style. If you’d like to see Ben’s work for yourself, head down to Lincoln’s Little Red Gallery 16-17.qxp_Layout 1 23/01/2023 09:36 Page 218 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY W hen you think of Valentine’s Day, what comes to mind? It is an age-old tradition that cut flowers are given on Valentine’s Day, but with a shelf life of only five to seven days, they are quickly forgotten. The legacy of a flowering plant can last much longer, as when you give it, it is actually at the start of its life rather than at the end! Potted plants are so much more suggestive of permanent affection than a bunch of flowers, and on a purely matter-of-fact level, they give far better value for money and avoid our throwaway culture. Cold loving cyclamen and hellebores both bloom for months and can temporarily live inside before being planted outdoors. Here are a few other ideas that will be well received by anyone who loves gardening or flowers in general. Stephanotis are stunning house plants which can be trailed around a wire to help release its perfume. Common in most garden centres, usually at this time of year, they can be found trained around heart shaped wire. A classic Valentine’s Day symbol is the rose. A potted miniature rose will last much longer and eventually can be planted outside in the garden or kept in a container outside. Miniature roses tend to flower at this time of year too. Camellia could be a good choice, but maybe for a less obvious reason. They are If you are looking for something different this Valentine’s Day Ed Fuller from Fullers Landscaping has some ideas. White Camellia symbolise adoration, Pink Camellia symbolise a longing for someone, and Red Camellia symbolise love, passion, and deep desire. These can either be bought in shrub form or as a standard tree. The Orchid is considered a rather raunchier plant choice, with the name derived from the Greek word ‘orchis’ named by the ancient Greek botanist, Theophrastus. He thought that fleshy under-ground tubers resembled the male anatomy. Due to their namesake, orchids are associated with fertility, virility, and sexuality. These associations coupled with their exotic appearance, have given them a long history of being associated with love, fertility and elegance throughout various cultures and time.
