< Previous40 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY HAIR & BEAUTY W hen we think about beauty salons, we often think nails, waxing, brows right? Before we book in, we often sift through the salon social media to see what services they have to offer and what results they get from their treatments - and we see lots of nails, waxing and brows. These types of treatments give the ‘wow’ factor, resulting in a boost in confidence immediately after the service, which is great for a pick me up but what about the long term? Wellbeing services tend to fade into the background on salon socials and for some, you’d only know they offered theses services at all of you studied the full treatment menu. Let’s be honest - your relaxing massage wouldn’t be so relaxing if your treatment started with your therapist videoing or taking pictures of you laid out on the treatment couch for all to see on socials! Massage services in particular have been proven to induce relaxation, relieve stress and tension and reduce the risks of burn out long term - which is particularly important as the majority of us navigate away from furlough and back to full time employment. Massage is generally recommended once every 4 weeks to avoid the benefits wearing off and not every massage service is the same so speak to your therapist before booking to ensure you select a treatment that is suited to your personal preferences. They are able to induce deep relaxation that can last for up to 24 hours. Because of the light touch or hands off approach with these services, they are often used in palliative care and can also be used to calm nervous pets. Look for treatments such as ‘Reiki’ or ‘crystal healing’ on treatment menus if these services sound more to your taste. If you’re the sort of person who loves to see the difference as well as feel the difference when you step off the treatment couch then there are services that offer the best of both! Hands on facials, back facials and body wraps can instantly improve the appearance of skin and target concerns in the treatment area. These services are usually offered as a 1 hour treatment and have manual massage incorporated within. Another salon favourite, popular at this time of year is tanning - opt for manual tan as opposed to spray tan and the products will be massaged in to the skin leaving you feeling rejuvenated and golden brown. /skincouturebeautyskincouturebeautySkin Couture Skin Couture Beauty Salon, Market Place, Caistor LN7 6TW skincouturebeauty@outlook.com@01472 852063 www.skincouturebeauty.co.uk Keep up to date with all our latest offers on treatments and products We are boutique beauty salon on a mission to make you look & feel fabulous. Take off your smart watch and switch all your tech to silent to ensure you feel tranquil from start to finish. Rebook your session and pay in advance - It’s totally normal after your treatment to feel sleepy and relaxed due to the simulating effect massage has on the circularity and lymphatic systems of the body. Getting organised beforehand will ensure the benefits last longer throughout the day and means you can just enjoy feeling at peace. Communicate with your massage specialist - Your massage therapist will ask how the pressure is feeling, if you are comfortable and if the room temperature is ok - if somethings not quite to your preference, let them know so they can adapt the treatment to suit you. 40-41.qxp_Layout 1 23/06/2021 07:57 Page 2HAIR & BEAUTY © Shutterstock /Ekaterina Jurkova 42-44.qxp_Layout 1 23/06/2021 08:46 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 43 HAIR & BEAUTY W ith summer in full swing, skin will naturally produce more oil. Slapping on the same old moisturiser that saw you through winter will leave your face looking greasy. Switch out that heavy moisturiser for something lighter, and be sure to arm yourself with a good exfoliator. Just remember less is more, so don’t go rubbing your face raw. Your skin might need a little help in getting that sun- kissed flow. Most us will still be walking around with our winter skin, so investing in a decent bronzer is definitely a good idea. You could always top yourself up with a trip to the tanning salon. Here’s where an exfoliator comes into its own, as it can scrub away that dead skin and keep a fake tan looking fresher for longer. The important thing to remember is protecting yourself against the sun, so be sure that whichever moisturiser you decide on also promises UV protection. Get your glow on The same also goes for lips. There are plenty of balms that boast sun protection, so be sure and find one. One ingredient you’ll want to look out for this season is aloe vera, a famed anti-inflammatory that’s more popular now than ever. It’s especially beneficial for soothing skin after time spent in the sun and for easing the effects of too much time spent tanning. Trust us, your skin will love you for it. When it comes to applying make-up, do yourself a favour and switch from your staple foundation to something with a bit more pizzazz. There’s no good working on that tan to cover it under a pale foundation. Also, it’s best to invest in waterproof make-up, as sweat and time spent on the beach will only make your face run. With spring and summer fashions, the emphasis is always on bare skin, from getting those arms and legs Whether you want to get beach-ready, get that sun-kissed glow or just want to have a fabulous head of hair, we’ve got the style advice for you. 44 Á 42-44.qxp_Layout 1 23/06/2021 08:46 Page 244 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY HAIR & BEAUTY © Shutterstock /Syda Productions Staying safe in the sun Enjoy the sun safely with this simple yet effective tips from Dr Stephanie Munn, Dermatology Clinical Lead at Bupa UK. 1. Use good quality sunscreen Buy one that has ‘UVA’ on the label, a star rating of 4 or 5, is at least SPF 30, water-resistant and still in-date. Put it on 30 minutes before you go outside and reapply at least every two hours. 2. Wear protective clothing Wear loose closes that cover your skin, made form breathable fabrics with a tight weave to stop UV rays getting through. Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses too. 3. Check the UV index The UV index tells you how strong the UV rays are in your area. Check it online before you head out. 4. Seek out shade Avoid sitting int eh sun between 11am and 3pm. Seek shade – under some trees perhaps, or bring a parasol out with you. 5. Drink plenty of water Aim to drink 6-8 glasses of water per day or more if you’re feeling thirsty. Steer clear of alcohol as it makes you pee more and can leave you even more dehydrated. out, to rocking a plunging neckline. Then there’s slipping into your bikini or swimming cossie. No doubt hair removal will be on your mind. While there are plenty of home options, you might get better results with a professional. Or, if you want to and you feel comfortable, be all natural. It’s your body, after all. It’s not just your skin that the sun can ravage, with your hair just as vulnerable. But fear not, there’s an assortment of UV styling sprays that you can set aside for just such occasions. One of the benefits of taking a dip in the sea is that the salt water will give your hair those gorgeous waves you can only seem to get at the beach. If you want to replicate this look at home, pick up a salt spray specially formulated for hair. All those stylising products can end up damaging hair, so go easy. To counteract those effects, try using a mineral and vitamin enriched shampoo. For even more luxurious hair, opt for a gentler shampoo as this will leave some of those natural oils behind. Don’t forget to keep hydrated. While there are plenty of products that promise to hydrate your skin, we’re actually talking about drinking water. Get yourself a BPA- free bottle and keep it topped up. Drinking plenty of fluids is one of the best things you can do for your beauty regime and, best of all, it’s totally free. 42-44.qxp_Layout 1 23/06/2021 08:46 Page 3 Sometimes you really can have your cake and eat it.
