Helping you regain your confidence, here at Glenn James salon in Woodhall Spa, we provide a compassionate, sensitive, and honest wig fitting and styling service. A wig can offer a practical way of coping with hair loss and there are many different styles and colours to choose from, helping you feel more like yourself and gain comforting control of your appearance. Synthetic wigs tend to offer a cheaper, light, and easy to look after option, while human hair wigs can be made from different hair types, often being dyed and usually requiring more regular cleaning. You may wish to have two wigs in order to wear one while the other is undergoing cleaning. If you are looking to match the style of your natural hair, it is useful to select a wig with the same volume and colour, although choosing a wig can also provide an opportunity to try new looks. Having a wig fitted can be an emotional event, but at Glenn James we fully understand the stress that can be caused through hair loss. An approved NHS wig supplier, we are a family run business with over 30 years of combined experience within the hairdressing industry and offer free consultations. Glenn James also measure for mastectomy bras in a respectful and private manner and have a range of bras and swimwear suitable for ladies who have lost either breast. We also stock post-surgery bras for your time in hospital. Another of Macmillan’s key fundraising efforts is the ‘Brave the Shave’ campaign. This one has really caught on over the last five years with everyone from office workers to primary school kids getting in on the action. It sees people literally braving the shave and parting with their lovely locks to raise money. Often it’s done in support or memory of a loved one. Some do it as part of a team, others as a family or sometimes just on their own initiative. The important thing is that every head shaved means more precious funds for Macmillan. Then there’s the ‘Go Sober for October’ campaign which, as one might be able to deduce, sees participants abstain from alcohol for a month. Participants get their colleagues, friends and family to sponsor them and funds are then donated to Macmillan. Considering it’s July now, October’s just around the corner. So this year, why not give it a go? As you can see, there’s loads of great ways to get involved and support this incredible charity and all the amazing work it does. The benefits should be obvious, with children able to grow up around their grandparents, rather than simply visiting on occasion. It helps to create a healthier, more wholesome environment, one where children aren’t left to fend for themselves while the parents (or parent) are both working jobs. Living with elderly relatives isn’t always easy and requires a level of compassion and understanding that we might not always be able to maintain. More than that is the need to enjoy all that life has to offer and dragging along gran to every event or activity going can be misguided at best. Respite care speaks to this need and is in many ways the best of both worlds. Caring for a relative can be stressful, so there’s no shame in wanting to take some time off. This is where respite care comes in, allowing said relative to enjoy a getaway for a week or two. It’s as much a treat for the relative who won’t want to willingly be a burden and will probably appreciate the change of scenery – not to mention the change in faces. If this becomes a frequent occurrence, perhaps once a year or every six months, your relative will likely forge new friendships in the process and will relish their next visit. These caring facilities will have a variety of activates your relative might not have easy access to otherwise, such as swimming. Video games, particularly those that are based on movement and motion control, have become more common in care homes, whilst tools designed to enable the easy operation of devices like tablets can unlock many apps and activities that might have previously been, quite literally, out of reach. With grown up children, not every household may have a game system, so don’t be surprised if your relative comes back with a new hobby or two. This might include fitness related hobbies. Not every house has its own gym, but the best respite care facilities will have on-site exercise equipment that are perfectly tailored to older people. There’ll also likely be fitness classes that promote gentle, strengthening and stamina boosting exercise such as tai chi and pilates, all of which can help to promote a healthy mind and body. Wanting to go on holiday but being unable to take an elderly relative due to illness, disability or poor mobility can leave a family feeling guilty to the point that they would rather miss out or invite gran along for what could well wind up being a miserable experience for all involved. Respite care offers the perfect solution, but there is another possibility. Some holiday providers will have their own on-site respite care facilities, allowing families to holiday together, without having to worry and fuss over the elderly the whole time. It is, after all, supposed to be about letting your hair down and relaxing. If there is a catch it’s that you’ll have to plan your getaways accordingly, as it’s no good expecting care facilities on a jungle safari or an extreme snowboarding retreat. More low-key examples include holiday and leisure parks, spa Rest and respite Here in the middle of summer, many will be wanting to get away and enjoy the best of the weather, at home or abroad. For families that look after an elderly relative, things are a bit more complicated. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways for everyone to benefit. 52-53.qxp_Layout 1 20/06/2022 10:44 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 53 Funeral Services Our funeral homes provide the best facilities including private arrangement rooms and peaceful chapels of rest. We also provide a funeral dividend during this difficult time of bereavement. A service from caring professionals To find out more contact your nearest funeral home: Lincolnshire.coop/storefinder retreats and hotels. Unsurprisingly, your relative may actually want a break away from you. It’s nothing to take personally as everyone is entitled to their own wants, needs and time away from home. There’s a reason they say that absence makes the heart grow fonder. It might just be a simple day trip to the coast or any one of the tourist attractions throughout Lincolnshire but getting out and away from the house does wonders for a person’s sense of self, independence and imagination – all integral to retaining a healthy mind and body. A carer, or group of carers, can take your relative out, but they will more often be part of a wider group. Weekend getaways further afield can do wonders for your relative’s social life, where there’ll no doubt form a number of new friendships to be forged. It’s a sad fact that friends, life partners and relatives die, so the opportunity to meet new folk will doubtless be a welcome one. Living with grandparents and elderly relatives under one roof is a rewarding experience for all involved. They can help ease the burden of childcare, help out around the house and create a positive familial community – surely an ideal environment for the little ones to flourish. As much as we need a break from our work and responsibilities from time to time, so too do people need time apart from each other. Respite care is the perfect option for all involved to enjoy themselves apart. For families, it’s a chance for a holiday abroad without having to worry about their relatives all the time, who’ll no doubt be enjoying their own time off away from you. © stock.adobe.com/Neil 52-53.qxp_Layout 1 20/06/2022 10:44 Page 254 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY COUNTY MOTORING Kia Sportage Plug-in Hybrid When choosing your next new car it can be all too easy to get caught up in the moment. The excitement of those new models glistening under the showroom lights can, occasionally, cause buyers to later regret their decision, especially if we later discover there was a new improved model tucked away that the dealership didn’t want you to know about. 54-57.qxp_Layout 1 20/06/2022 10:47 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 55 COUNTY MOTORING Mazda CX-60 T he simplest way to avoid car buyer’s remorse is to be as informed as possible about the decision you are about to make and that’s why we test cars as they come off the production line to bring you the latest news on what’s hot - and ultimately - what’s not! Here’s a few of the cars that we’ve managed to get up close and personal with in recent weeks which should ensure you don’t suffer the dreaded buyer’s remorse. First up is Kia, who have upped the stakes with their all-new Sportage Plug-in Hybrid, and lowered the Benefit In Kind tax band for business users dues to low CO2 emissions with its long electric range. It blends power and performance with an exceptional combined fuel economy of 252mpg, and an emissions-free driving range of up to 43 miles, rising to 48 miles on the City Cycle. This new SUV features a high-performance 1.6-litre T-GDi engine that works in tandem with a 66.9kW permanent magnet traction electric motor and a 13.8kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack. The high-voltage battery sits centrally between the two axles under the body of the SUV, ensuring a balanced weight distribution and an interior space that is practical, comfortable and versatile. In laymans terms, this translates into a 0- 60mph time of just 7.9 seconds, and a top speed of 119mph and this, coupled with emissions of just 25g/km of CO2 on the weighted combined cycle result in it attracting £0 VED first-year tax after registration. The combination of low CO2 and long electric range means a Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) tax rate of 7 per cent for the current 2021/22 tax year, rising to 8 per cent for the next three tax years to 2024/25. This means, the new model should cost less to run than almost all of its rivals, despite a very good interior, strong performance and generous standard equipment levels. 56 Á 54-57.qxp_Layout 1 20/06/2022 10:47 Page 256 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY COUNTY MOTORING Audi Q4 Riding on stylish 19-inch alloy wheels, the Sportage Plug-in Hybrid is available across the ‘GT-Line’, ‘3’, ‘4’ and ‘GT-Line S’ grades with prices starting from £38,395 OTR. Not to be outdone, the all-new Mazda CX-60 will arrive in showrooms shortly. Launched with Mazda’s first plug-in hybrid technology powertrain, which combines a Skyactiv-G 2.5-litre four- cylinder petrol engine with a 100 kW electric motor and a 17.8 kWh high- capacity battery. What this means for the driver is 39 miles of combined electric motor-powered driving with the vehicle running at 62mph or less and 42 miles of city EV range, while the performance of the combined drivetrain delivers a 0- 62mph performance of just 5.8 seconds. Offered in three trim grades: Exclusive- Line, Homura and Takumi, customer choice is further enhanced with the ability to add two option packs across all grades: Convenience Pack and Driver Assistance Pack, with a Comfort Pack available on Exclusive-Line. An additional option to specify a Panoramic roof on Homura and Takumi models is also unique to the CX-60. Prices for these start at £43,950 for the Mazda CX-60 Exclusive-Line rising to £46,700 for the Homura and £48,050 for the flagship Takumi which comes with 20-inch black machined alloy wheels, body-coloured mirrors, combined with chrome plated signature wing grille treatment and side window surround. Additionally, there is a comprehensive range of advanced i-Activsense driver assistance systems ensuring active safety at the highest level, too. Several new technologies debut in the Mazda CX-60, including: See-Through View - a next- generation 360-degree monitor with extended field of view at low speeds; Hill Descent Control (HDC), which assists in safely descending steep slopes with slippery or rough road surfaces; Adaptive Cruise Control (i-ACC), which can now incorporate speed limits from Traffic Sign Recognition. Meanwhile, the powerful models of the Audi Q4 e-tron series benefit from faster- charging speeds. This will benefit models with the large battery that provides 76.6 kWh of net energy (82 kWh gross) – that is, the Audi Q4 40 e-tron, and Audi Q4 50 e-tron quattro models as well as the associated Sportback versions. All new versions of these cars now have a 54-57.qxp_Layout 1 20/06/2022 10:47 Page 3LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 57 COUNTY MOTORING BMW iX recharging capacity of 135 kW of power. The ideal five to 80 percent charge time is reduced from 38 to 29 minutes. But, what we like best about the Q4 is the refinement, comfortable ride and classy interior, not to mention the fact that it’s available with four-wheel drive. Whichever model you choose, it offers a sublime ride and has very little road and tyre noise emanating through to the cockpit, putting it leagues ahead of its counterparts. And, thanks to the integration of Amazon’s virtual assistant Alexa, Audi connect now lets drivers manage their calendar or shopping list by voice as well as control compatible smart home devices from their car, which certainly seems to be a step in the right direction. The only downside is of course the ticket price - the entry level model isn’t too bad at £43,290 and rises but the flagship model reaches an eye watering £67,610. Last but by no means least is the latest offering from BMW. Named the iX, the car has already been crowned ‘Large Crossover of the Year’ at the UK Car of the Year Awards, praising the “relaxed, refined and calming nature” of the model. The BMW iX was launched a few months ago and represents the pinnacle of the BMW Group electrification strategy. The fully electric vehicle has a WLPT range of 380 miles, is the premiere for the new generation BMW iDrive powered by Operating System 8, and, offers the most extensive set of standard driver assistance systems ever seen in a BMW. Power comes from a 71kWh battery in the ‘entry-level’ model or a much larger 105kWh battery in the range-topping xDrive50. Both of which can be charged from 10-80% in just over 30 minutes. The model line-up begins with the 321bhp xDrive40, which has a range of 257 miles and achieves 0-60mph in around 5.7 seconds. Its larger stablemate, xDrive50 with its 105kWh battery delivers an impressive 380-mile range and shortens the 0-60mph time to just 4.6 seconds. We also hear there’s another model on its way badged the M60 which will propel you to 60mph in under 4 seconds! All in all, you may have to pay a little more for the BMW, but if you can get over the £77,305 - £107,305 price tags, then you’ll certainly be impressed. 54-57.qxp_Layout 1 20/06/2022 10:47 Page 458 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY COUNTY MOTORING New Aston Martin V12 Vantage 2022 A spectacular finale It is a time of mixed emotions for the Aston Martin V12 Vantage: a moment of celebration as the latest model is unveiled to great aplomb, but a moment of sadness. After all, this is the final V12 Vantage that will ever be built. 58-59.qxp_Layout 1 20/06/2022 10:48 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 11 COUNTY MOTORING Our first impressions are that it’s insane. It was a very short odds bet that Aston Martin would want it to go out with a bang. And while the V12 Vantage has always looked more menacing than its V8 sibling, the new version takes it to a whole new level. Even by Aston Martin’s standards, the front grille is enormous, while the rear wheel arches are so big that they appear to be in a different postcode. The V12 is a 5.2-litre twin-turbo taken from the DB11, and it produces 700PS. So, of course, the final edition had to be capable of 200mph, plus it gets from a standstill to 62mph in 3.5-seconds. According to Aston Martin, the driving dynamics have been “honed to deliver utmost performance and unmatched enjoyment.” The figures would appear to confirm this – especially as, at 200mph, it generates over 200kg of downforce. The interior doesn’t seem to live up to the exterior’s madness. But it still looks the part, with angled air vents, button-press gear selectors surrounding a V12 badge and lots of red trim. Only 333 are being built, and the insanity of the price tag is a match for the car itself: £270,000. On the other hand, the limited numbers mean it will undoubtedly be a collectors’ item because this is the last one. Therefore, it’s difficult to blame Aston Martin for making the most of the surge in demand. The Warwickshire manufacturer describes the new V12 Vantage as a “spectacular finale for an iconic bloodline.” On this evidence, it’s not joking. 58-59.qxp_Layout 1 20/06/2022 10:48 Page 2Next >
