But admittedly, the Mustang badge is more of an excuse to justify the price tag as, other than the power of the dual-motor all-wheel drive version, it isn’t like a traditional Mustang in any comparable way. Kia EV6 A joy to drive with credible sporting prowess and poke, the EV6 is set to become a thorn in the side of performance production cars, with 226 and 321PS versions offered. Built on the same platform as Hyundai’s Ioniq 5, it offers a 328-mile range from its 77.4kWh battery, virtually unrivalled charging speeds and a seven-year warranty. Vauxhall Mokka-e The newly overhauled Mokka was the first car to be given the new Vauxhall style, complete with a heavily revised front end with the latest design signature panel grille, the Vauxhall Vizor. It comes well equipped with a 45kWh battery and a 209-mile range. It is a justly desirable option for those wanting a small SUV. BMW iX1 BMW’s iX1 is an X1 with the engine replaced by an electric motor. But that means it’s based on a proven recipe: fast, good to drive and well-refined with a Kia EV6 BMW iX1 58-62.qxp_Layout 1 23/01/2023 10:14 Page 3LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 61 COUNTY MOTORING pleasing interior. The Bimmer claims a range of 270 miles from its 64.7kWh battery, while dual electric motors have an impressive 317PS. Porsche Taycan If you can make do without one obvious thrill in a Porsche – the engine note – then the Taycan is an excellent option, with lightning acceleration, superb handling, and a high level of refinement. Options include a 750PS variant with a 0-60mph time of 2.7 seconds with a 93kWh battery while retaining a range of 291 miles. You will need to make do with the tiniest of boots, though. Volvo is a premium brand nowadays – it’s capable of giving the German giants like Audi, BMW, and Mercedes- Benz a run for their money. But sadly, that’s reflected in the price. So, the list of electric cars continues to grow – and it’s clear they are cheaper to run, despite the rising cost of electricity. The main downside is the additional purchase price, but servicing costs should be meagre, too. And if you’re a long-distance driver, you’ll recoup that extra investment quickly. I n today’s day and age, Valentine’s Day is a holiday for mainly couples and lovers expressing their affection with greetings and gifts but has also been expanded to express affection between relatives and friends. There are many stories behind this famous day and how it came to be, which are not as romantic as you would think. Firstly, the name Valentine was a pretty common name during the Early Middle Ages (3000 BC- mid 400AD approximately), and this was when Saint Valentine - who was one of two guys preaching the good word in Rome – survived being martyred on 14th February 269, so giving us the date for his eponymous day. Another story connected to this famous day is at the end of the 5th Century. The Day was originally the 66 Á 64-67.qxp_Layout 1 23/01/2023 10:16 Page 1LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 65 VALENTINE’S DAY © stock.adobe.com/ Ярослав Антонюк 64-67.qxp_Layout 1 23/01/2023 10:16 Page 266 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY VALENTINE’S DAY Feast of Purification and was then named in honour of St. Valentine, the patron saint of lovers, amongst others – and so it began, St Valentine’s Day as we know it. Every year on 14th February people celebrate the day by sending messages of love and affection to partners, family and friends, through Valentine’s Day cards, either bought or home-made, flowers and chocolates and spend special time together to celebrate their love for each other. This has become more important than ever in recent years as even the strongest of relationships is liable to become strained when outside factors put pressure upon them, and it’s been a stressful few years with the pandemic, the lockdown, and now an economic crisis and the cost of living. It might be tempting, all that in mind, to skip out this year, but that might be the worst idea possible. When things are bad and everyone is stressed, it’s more important than ever to show that you can help your partner through said stress and bring back the good times! And luckily there are certainly many places in Lincolnshire to spend that special time. The most obvious and popular thing to do on Valentine’s Day is to enjoy a meal out, making sure you try and pre-book a preferable time and place as soon as possible, as over the years Lincolnshire’s reputation as a gastronomic county has grown due to the use of top quality home grown and home farmed produce to the hundreds of high class restaurants, delicious gastro pubs and bistros that now populate the county, employing quality chefs and interior designers – we are certainly spoilt for choice. There are also many lovely hotels, Bed & Breakfast places or Airbnb’s for short term stays to spend quality time together, away from the home. These can be found in all our main towns and cities where many new and historic hotels are available. Otherwise, head out to the beautiful, un- spoilt countryside and stay in a Yurt (a portable, circular dwelling made of a lattice of flexible poles and covered in felt or other fabric) or in a caravan, either modern or Romany - where only the birds and the occasional tractor or horse passing by can be heard. Of course, there’s always the options of either doing all the housework for your loved one for the day, or oppositely, staying in bed all day together, and of © stock.adobe.com/peopleimages.com 64-67.qxp_Layout 1 23/01/2023 10:16 Page 3LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY 67 VALENTINE’S DAY course there is the option of going out. Enjoy a romantic walk in the many beautiful areas and places Lincolnshire offers such as the Lincolnshire Wolds, Burghley House Park, Doddington Hall and Gardens, or along the River Witham, Ancholme or Trent, and of course there are many beautiful clean beaches with their big skies and fresh air to walk across, drawing a heart in the sand with both initials inside it, using a shell or piece of driftwood. Of course, there’s the amazing Cathedral and historical area as well as the Castle and the Lincolnshire Museum, that a couple can walk around and explore, testing their fitness up or down Steep Hill! There are also other more alternative outings that can be organised for animal lovers to Bransby Horses, Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary or Lincolnshire Wildlife Park (where your visit will also make a difference to the rescue and care of the animals as well as delight your beloved partner or family member). However, there is always the outside chance you may forget St Valentine’s Day – but all is not lost! You can write that love letter served with a lovingly made drink or meal, formally promising to make it up to her or him with a delicious meal out or day out of his/her choice or going to see a show at any one of the many great venues throughout the county – check out What’s On pages toward the back of the magazine to see what shows are on and where. Whatever you decide to do on St Valentine’s Day, here in Lincolnshire, you are spoilt for choice from top class eateries to wind swept beaches and historical places of interest, and whatever you do, do it your way, and never forget the real meaning behind it - that the day is for a true expression of love for your partner, friend or family member. The most important thing, therefore, is to be honest to yourself and your loved one, and to think about what would really make them happy. While there certainly is a lot of sense to be had in those who complain that dates like this have become over-commercialised or capitalised on (and we agree that they have) that doesn’t mean your relationship should feel the same way. If you truly feel that way then show your love a different way, something more personal to you and your partner, and remind them that you care. © stock.adobe.com/polinaloves 64-67.qxp_Layout 1 23/01/2023 10:16 Page 468 LINCOLNSHIRE TODAY what’s Louth February 1 - 3 Fantastic Mr Fox - Louth Riverhead Theatre Really Not Bad Productions Theatre Company bring you a night of humour and hilarity as our intrepid hero Mr Fox skilfully tries to outwit the cunning plans of those no-good farmers: ‘Boggis, Bunce and Bean, one fat, one short, one lean’.
